JUST FOR my fellow CATHOLICS-New Revelations

File:McVey wide skyscraper.jpg

Just for Catholics is a website where Dr. Mizzi seeks to convince Catholics to leave the Catholic Church. I am reviewing his teachings and comparing them to the Word of God in Tradition, Scripture and Magisterium. We are currently on this article. His words in blue.

New Revelations
Question: A Catholic lady told me about the various messages given at the apparitions of Mary. I asked her why those things are not mentioned in the Bible. She said they are new revelations. Could this be so?

1.  One shouldn't get their knowledge about Catholic doctrine from just any little old lady.  I'm sure if I went around asking little old ladies what Dr. Mizzi teaches, he might not be happy with the results I got.

2.  Why not go to the Catholic Catechism for the answer.  It is a matter of public knowledge which we can look up for free, on the internet.  Let me show you.

At the very top of those google results, you'll see this:

Catechism of the Catholic Church - The Revelation of God

www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/p1s1c2a1.htm
66 "The Christian economy, therefore, since it is the new and definitive Covenant, will never pass away; and no new public revelation is to be expected before ...

And when you click on that link, you get this:

There will be no further Revelation
66 "The Christian economy, therefore, since it is the new and definitive Covenant, will never pass away; and no new public revelation is to be expected before the glorious manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ."28Yet even if Revelation is already complete, it has not been made completely explicit; it remains for Christian faith gradually to grasp its full significance over the course of the centuries.

67 Throughout the ages, there have been so-called "private" revelations, some of which have been recognized by the authority of the Church. They do not belong, however, to the deposit of faith. It is not their role to improve or complete Christ's definitive Revelation, but to help live more fully by it in a certain period of history. Guided by the Magisterium of the Church, the sensus fidelium knows how to discern and welcome in these revelations whatever constitutes an authentic call of Christ or his saints to the Church.

Christian faith cannot accept "revelations" that claim to surpass or correct the Revelation of which Christ is the fulfillment, as is the case in certain non-Christian religions and also in certain recent sects which base themselves on such "revelations".

Answer: Your friend believes the messages that are given in the various apparitions even though they are not included in the Bible. She can only justify this by claiming that they are newrevelations. She may not realize that this goes against both the teaching of the Bible and also the official teaching of the Roman Catholic Church.

Thank you.  So why bring it up?  Are you really debating against the beliefs of purportedly Catholic little old ladies?

Are you debating Catholic doctrine or the doctrine of unknown strangers who claim to be Catholic?

The Bible teaches that the fullness of revelation was given in Christ.

That would be the New Testament which the Catholic Church wrote.

Jude warns us: "Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints" (Jude 1:3). The Christian faith has been delivered once and for all; it was already handed over when Jude wrote his letter. Christians are called to "contend" for that faith, that is, to struggle to uphold and defend the doctrines of the Christian religion given through the apostles. Since we are told that this faith is already delivered, we are not to expect new revelations from God. Indeed, we are well aware that the most devious method to destroy the pure religion of Christ is by adding new teachings.

The wording used here is ambiguous.  The teaching of the Holy Trinity, might be described as a new teaching because it is not explicitly taught in Scripture.  The Church explained the teaching in detail three centuries later.  The same for many other Catholic doctrines.  Purgatory, the Assumption, Communion of Saints, etc.

Some call them "new" teachings.  But they are really better, more detailed explanations of Christ's Teachings.

Catholic people who are so eager to receive new messages from heaven should also note that the Catholic Church officially teaches that no further new public revelations are to be expected in our age. The Vatican Council II states: "The Christian dispensation, therefore, as the new and definitive covenant, will never pass away and we now await no further new public revelation before the glorious manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ" (Dei Verbum).

I'm Catholic and I know a lot of people who follow the Marian Apparitions.  I've not met one single person in any of those groups, who does not understand that the revelations in these Apparitions must not contradict Sacred Tradition, Sacred Scripture or the Teachings of the Church.

I am convinced that many Catholics eagerly seek new messages and new promises from heaven because many of them have never really understood the sweet message of the Bible.

I seek the new messages because I understand the message of the Bible:

1 Corinthians 2:13

King James Version (KJV)

13Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

John 6:45

King James Version (KJV)

45It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.

Those Saints which gave us tremendous insights into the meaning of Christian revelation, all had heavenly assistance in their private revelations.  St. Francis Assissi, St. Dominic, St. Louis De Montfort, St. Catherine Sienna, St. Theresa of Avila, etc. etc.  Too many to number.

So, yes, I want to hear the messages from heaven because it is the Holy Spirit guiding His people to the truth of Christ's revelations:

John 14:26

King James Version (KJV)

26But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Yes, that is the sweet lesson of Scripture.

In that blessed Book we come to know a wonderful Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, who fills the heart of His beloved spouse with assurance, peace and joy unspeakable.

Indeed, if we follow the instructions of that Blessed Book:

Mark 16:16

King James Version (KJV)

16He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

John 6:56

King James Version (KJV)

56He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.

Matthew 18:17

King James Version (KJV)

17And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.

Hebrews 13:17

King James Version (KJV)

17Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

Sincerely,

De Maria
