Typology

Typology is the ancient form of exegesis taught by Jesus. It is also called "foreshadowing". Typology is a sort of prophecy, whereby God uses symbols which may be things, actions and even people in the Old Testament to reaveal greater truths and greater personages in the New Testament.
Adam for instance, is a type of Christ. In other words, Adam foreshadowed Christ.
1 Corinthians 15 45 The first man Adam was made into a living soul; the last Adam into a quickening spirit.
Note how St. Paul speaks of Jesus as the "last" Adam.
In Luke, we see that Jesus taught the Apostles that the entire Scriptures were about Him:
Luke 24 27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded to them in all the scriptures, the things that were concerning him. 28 And they drew night to the town, whither they were going: and he made as though he would go farther. 29 But they constrained him; saying: Stay with us, because it is towards evening, and the day is now far spent. And he went in with them. 30 And it came to pass, whilst he was at table with them, he took bread, and blessed, and brake, and gave to them. 31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him: and he vanished out of their sight. 32 And they said one to the other: Was not our heart burning within us, whilst he spoke in this way, and opened to us the scriptures?
The Lucan reference was Jesus, after the Resurrection, unlocking the Scriptures to the Apostles by teaching them typology. This is why the Church says that Jesus is hidden in the Old Testament and revealed in the New. Jesus had hinted about this long before the Resurrection however:
John 5 46 For if you did believe Moses, you would perhaps believe me also; for he wrote of me.
May God bless you,

Sincerely,

De Maria
