What comes first? Faith, repentance or forgiveness?
What comes first? Faith, repentance or forgiveness?
I am of the opinion that God first gives us the grace of faith. Then, we begin to seek God. Study His Word and obey His Commandments (i.e. His Law). Then, realizing that we have sinned, we repent and ask for Him to forgive us.
Then God, in His Mercy, washes us of our sins.
Therefore the Scripture says: Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Acts 26:20
But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.
2 Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Romans 2:13
(For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
