Who says we don't believe it is literal?

Who says we don't believe it is literal? The Church teaches that the Bible contains literal and metaphorical portions which can be understood in their context.

Now, do you believe this is literal?
Judges 9:8

⁸ The trees went forth on a time to anoint a king over them; and they said unto the olive tree, Reign thou over us.

Because if you believe that is literal, you will have problems understanding the Word of God.
