The Catholic Church has 2000 years of records of Teaching the Word of God.

Lutero:
That is simply the illusion of explanatory depth.

It is no illusion. The Catholic Church has 2000 years of records of Teaching the Word of God.

The Dunning Kruger effect.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning...3Kruger_effect
Lol! The Dunning Kruger effect is multiplied in spades by the idea of Sola Scriptura. Sola Scriptura gives Protestants the illusion that they are "interpreting Scripture". Where, in effect, they are imposing their own views upon Scripture.

I get hugely frustrated here because I seem to have a far broader, as well as more detailed knowledge of the issues than most people here. It's frustrating because people who don't know as much, also don't know that they don't know, and so take superior attitudes which they can't justify.
But, can you justify your attitude of superiority? That is the question.

And the Catholic observer of any exchange, who also doesn't have enough explanatory depth beyond the usual rote responses,
The rote responses come from the Protestants. Pay closer attention.

will also overrate the Catholic's knowledge - not least because you want your own approach to Scripture vindicated. And you demonstrate so clearly how Scripture is marginalised in Catholicism. There is no 3-legged stool in practice. It is sola ecclesia.
First of all, the Catholic does not rely upon anything, alone or sola. That is the Protestant mindset. It is Protestants who separate the Bible from the Church. It is Protestants who divide faith from works. It is Protestants who divide, continually.

Second, the Catholic Church does not separate the Bible from Tradition nor the Church from the Word of God. There is no such thing as Church "alone", or Scripture alone or Tradition alone. These are things that the Protestants teach.

Third, you claim that Catholic knowledge is over rated because Catholic knowledge disproves your points and leaves you with no response.

And given how little Catholics know of Scripture - even their own Scripture, the deuterocanonicals - when one of you energetically says of 1 & 2 Maccabees "there are no errors in these books" (http://forums.catholic.com/showpost....6&postcount=30), it's just parroting something you have no knowledge of.
Who are you to claim to know what I know? Can you read my mind? I have read the Catholic Bible thoroughly, several times, from one end to the other.

If I have no knowledge of which I speak, you have less than I of what you speak.

Anything Rome says is swallowed uncritically.
Because it is true. I was a Catholic who fell away. I then searched through the Protestant doctrines and they all were found wanting. I came back to the Catholic Church precisely because all her doctrines are found in Scripture, either explicit or implied. While Protestant doctrines which disagree with the Catholic Church, disagree with Scripture as well.

That attitude to truth is what makes Catholicism so profoundly unattractive.
Then Christianity should be unattractive to you as a whole. Because God does not value those who refuse to listen and obey. Read the Scripture:
John 20:29

King James Version (KJV)

29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

Proverbs 3:5

King James Version (KJV)

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Show me where the Bible says that you are to criticize the Church or the Doctrines of Jesus Christ. Show me chapter and verse.

Hebrews 13:7

King James Version (KJV)

Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.

The Bereans, which Protestants speak of so often, are they which accepted the Word of God spoken to them.
Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

The Thessalonicans which had the Protestant mindset of making up their own minds and not accepting Church Teaching, it is they who were not noble.

Acts 17:But the Jews (from Thessalonica) which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.

It's an empty and vacuous "windy suspiration of forced breath", to quote Hamlet. Actually, there is much error in 1 & 2 Maccabees, but how would the majority of Catholics know, being so biblically illiterate?
It is Protestants who are the biblically illiterate. They claim to know the Scriptures but actually only know the errors which have been passed down to them by other Protestants.

You can only maintain you current attitude to interpretation of Scripture by being blind to how you much interpret the magisterium, and how much interpretation has already happened at various levels before you read the document or Bible before you. But it's not like Catholics have detailed knowledge of councils and decrees in lieu of detailed knowledge of Scripture. Time and again it has been shown that Catholics simply don't know a thing about the council that approved the veneration of icons, for example.
God didn't ordain all men to be Theologians. This is another reason why Protestantism fails. It requires each man to be his own pope and magisterium. And yet, all men are not equally disposed to understand the Word of God. This is why God put here His Church to explain to men the meaning of His Spiritual Doctrines and to thus lead them to heaven.

I know Catholics don't love the Bible like Protestants do.
Protestants don't love the Bible. Protestants want to take the Bible apart and decimate it.

Protestants took out seven books from the Old Testament.
Protestants wanted to add the wore alone to Rom 3:28.
Protestants wanted to get rid of the Epistle of the Hebrews.
Protestants still want to get rid of the Epistle of James.

Protestants want to be rid of the Johanine comma.
1 John 5:6-9

King James Version (KJV)

This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.
For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.
If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.

Protestants want to be rid of the ending of Mark.

It is Protestants who in their self pride think that they have authority over the Bible and what belongs in it.

I hope I have the Word of God written on my heart. I always have many verses - from 1 Corinthians, Philippians, James, Proverbs (I memorised the entire book of Proverbs in high school) - floating around my thoughts reminding me of what I am called to be as a Christian.
I hope you do also. But I bet, that as I Protestant, you cast out this Scripture:
Hebrews 13:17

King James Version (KJV)

17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

Is that the Word of God or not? But the Word of God tells you to hang your hat at the door of the Church and you refuse! The Word of God tells you to obey the Church and you refuse!

As is the case for many Protestants.
The case for most Protestants is that they value their opinion over the Word of God. They refuse to believe that God could have appointed anyone to teach them the Word of God.

It is perhaps not surprising then that Protestants are more moral than Catholics

Really?

Protestants believe in remarriage after divorce. What does Christ say?
Matthew 5:32

King James Version (KJV)

32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

Protestants accept contraception, masturbation, gay marriage, gay clergy, abortion and do not believe in attending the Mass. Of which Scripture says:
Hebrews 10:25-31

King James Version (KJV)

25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

These are things which Protestants defend as God given rights. This is the morality of the Protestant.

- there are many studies and polls that demonstrate that.
Flawed studies run by secular or Protestant media.

You say that Catholics go straight to the RCC's teachings, and you're right. Given that Rome sets itself up as sole interpreter, then there is no need for lay Catholics to read Scripture or have a Bible. Instead, there is total reliance on the teachings of the group, and information is controlled. There is no objectivity. You live in a bubble. If Catholicism is false, you will never know. I don't say that to be hurtful, I'm just making a fair observation. Christians are supposed to "test everything"; Catholics test nothing - indeed, testing anything is labeled as Protestant and heretical. Perhaps you will have the good fortune to have a knowledgeable Protestant friend who will be kind and patient, but the type of interaction that happens on a forum, which you can dip in and out of, will not change you ever.
The key words here, "if Catholicism is false". But it isn't. The Catholic Church can demonstrate and has demonstrated throughout the centuries its divine mandate to Teach the commands of Jesus Christ to the entire world (Matt 28:19-20).

How many Catholics will respond to the quote from Ignaz von Doellinger on the "upon this rock" thread?
Why? Can't you speak for yourself? Or are you simply spouting that which you have been spoon fed by Ignaz von Doellinger?

You see, it is you, Protestants who hang your brains on the door of the Protestant Church. But you don't even realize it. Anyway, if you need a response to any anti-Catholic rhetoric, provide a link.
