Check your brain in at the door of the Catholic Church

Protestants will say, "Don't check your brain in at the door of the Catholic Church!"

This saying sounds like a no brainer.  Obviously, we are meant to be free thinkers who come to our own conclusions by considering the facts and weighing them and thus coming to an understanding.

But that is the illusion and not the truth.

If you want to understand something, understand this.  We love God because God first loved us.  THAT is always the order of things.

If we have anything good, it is because God first gave it to us.

"Understanding" is a grace of God.  It is not something for which we work to achieve it.  If we understand the spiritual truths of God it is because God first gave us that understanding.  Understanding is a grace given to those who believe in God.  St. Augustine said:

StAugustine of Hippo - "Understanding is the reward of faith. Therefore, seek not to understand that you may believe, but believe that you may understand."
So, how does that apply to the topic of this article?

God did not establish a Church full of theologians who must all understand before they are found righteous.  Scripture says:

1 Corinthians 12:28
And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

Therefore God put all kinds in the Church and we each have our gifts.  We are not all theologians.  We are not all teachers.  But Scripture commands us as follows:

Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

But Protestants will say, "We don't, we are taught by the Holy Spirit."  Which is another empty claim akin to "I am saved by my faith alone."

The Scripture says, "By their fruits you will know them".  And we all know that Protestants contradict each other left and right and therefore it is proof that they are not inspired by the Holy Spirit.  For God is not the author of confusion.

But Scripture says:

Hebrews 13:7
King James Version (KJV)
7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.

And also:

Hebrews 13:17
King James Version (KJV)
17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

Therefore, we are called to check our brains in at the door of the Catholic Church and believe in order that we may be blessed with understanding.  In the meantime, we know that God has given the Church the absolute truth because Scripture also says:

1 Timothy 3:15
But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

and also:

Ephesians 3:10
To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,

And therefore the Word of God assures us that the Church, His Church, will always teach us the truth without confusion and contradiction the likes of which we see throughout Protestantism.

And so, I say to you.  Hurry up!  Check your brains in at the door of the Catholic Church.  Believe that you may understand.  And you will be blessed.

Sincerely,

De Maria
