Is it that hard to understand?

I can't seem to get Protestants to understand.  And sometimes I have trouble getting Catholics to understand.  That the TEN COMMANDMENTS are the underpinning of our faith.

Scripture is profoundly clear, that anyone who refuses to keep the Ten Commandments is lost.  No one can be saved who refuses to keep the Ten Commandments.  The Ten Commandments are more important for our salvation than are the Sacraments.

1 Corinthians 7:19
Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.

Catholics who receive all the Sacraments religiously, but refuse to keep the Ten Commandments, can't be saved.  Actually, to be clearer, a Catholic who refuses to keep the Ten Commandments should not be receiving the Sacraments.  It is sacrilege to do so, since the Sacraments are for the faithful.  And keeping the Ten Commandments is an exercise of our faith.

But the opposite is not true.  Catholics, who do not receive the Sacraments religiously, but keep the Ten Commandments, can be saved by God.

This is why the Catholic Church teaches that Protestants can be saved.  Anyone can be saved, by God,  if he keeps the Ten Commandments.  Protestants have a quick rejoinder when I tell them that, they say, "then why do I want to be Catholic?"

And I am quicker to say, "Because unless you are a Catholic, you can't be saved IN THIS LIFE."  Unless you are a Catholic, keeping the Ten Commandments and receiving the Sacraments.  That is to say, living in a state of grace, you can't walk upon Mount Sion with the Saints of God.

Hebrews 12:22-23
22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,
23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,

It is God who saves.  But God does not save anyone who does not keep the Commandments.  Period.  Whether they be Catholic or Protestant or Jew or Muslim.

And only those who keep the Commandments of God and receive the Sacraments, can be saved in this life.  The rest must await their trial before the Judgment Seat of God before they will walk amongst the Saints, if indeed, they ever do so at all.

Is that so hard to understand?

Sincerely,

De Maria
