I. THE LIFE OF MAN - TO KNOW AND LOVE GOD -2

2 So that this call should resound throughout the world, Christ sent forth the apostles he had chosen, commissioning them to proclaim the gospel: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age."4 Strengthened by this mission, the apostles "went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that attended it."5

Matthew 28:19-20

King James Version (KJV)
Why Be Catholic?
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Strengthened by this mission, the apostles "went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that attended it."5
Mark 16:20And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

Christ gave the Church what we call the Great Commission.  To go out to the world and spread the good news that Jesus Christ had revealed and taught.  This is what we call the Deposit of Faith or Sacred Tradition.

Our Lord also gave the Church the power to produce signs of the working of the Holy Spirit.  Foremost of these signs are the Sacraments, which produce invisible results which are shown forth and evoked by physical signs.  The source and summit of these, being the Holy Eucharist.

But Christ also gave the Church the power to produce miracles which would showcase the power of the Holy Spirit in other signs and wonders like curing the sick, raising the dead, prophecies and even flying.  We can read about these miracles in the lives of the canonized Saints of the Catholic Church. These signs show that Christ did not leave the Church orphan, but has accompanied the Church throughout history.
