Is Salvation caused by works?

  1. This is a favorite Protestant question - both true and false. The Protestant understanding is the quid pro quo, which is not true.
The true meaning of works is partially revealed by James 2:14-26, where he graphically describes the "works" according to Faith. For a deeper meaning we can look at Mother Teresa. It was the revelation of the Love of God and her total love in return that abandoned her to a life of works - just as new lovers cannot do enough to please one another. Pleasing God through pleasing others is the greatest compliment that we can give to God and justification for the commandment - "Love one another as I have loved You." randalagostini.com
