Protestant objections to the Gospel

Luther:
That the "Roman Catholic church" has added.

Prayers for the dead,
Have you not read in Scripture when St. Paul prayed for the soul of Onesiphorus?

2 Timothy 1:15-18

King James Version (KJV)

15This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.
16The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain:
17But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me.
18The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.

veneration of angels & dead saints,
Abraham was long dead, and the Jews reverently called him and their ancestors, Fathers:
Luke 1:55

King James Version (KJV)

55As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.

As did the Apostles:
James 2:21

King James Version (KJV)

21Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?

Matthew 10:40-42

King James Version (KJV)

40He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
41He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.
42And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

This is veneration. St. Paul venerates all the saints of the past in an entire chapter:
Hebrews 11:8

King James Version (KJV)

8By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.....Hebrews 12

1Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

To be continued

Sincerely,

De Maria
