Those who are saved will be drawn from the pool of those who keep the Law.

Luther:
Yes, we have been over this and you still don't get it. So Cornelius was justified by works of righteousness prior to hearing words by which he and his household will be saved?
St. Cornelius was saved by God like all the rest of us. Enduring to the end.
Matthew 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

Titus 3:5 clearly states - that it's not by works of righteousness which we have done but according to His mercy He saved us..
That is correct. In the washing of regeneration which is Baptism.

In Acts 10:34-35, Peter prefaced his message with a frank admission. Up to now he had believed that God's favor was limited to the nation of Israel. Now he realized that God did not respect a man's person because of his nationality. He was not implying that Cornelius was already saved based on fearing God and working righteousness apart from believing the gospel. Cornelius already worshiped the true God, but this was not enough. He lacked faith in Christ for salvation (Acts 10:36,43). Acts 10:22 - "Cornelius the centurion, a just man, one who fears God and has a good reputation among all the nation of the Jews, was divinely instructed by a holy angel to summon you to his house, and to hear words from you." What were those words? To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins (Acts 10:43).
A believer will be Baptized:
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Are you trying to imply that Cornelius was already saved based on his own merits? Then why did God's angel instruct him to send for Peter?
In order that St. Peter would Baptize him. Think about it. St. Cornelius had already received the Holy Spirit. The only thing that St. Peter could do for him was to Baptize him and thus God would wash away his sins and he would be born again a Child of God.

If a man can be saved without the gospel why bother to preach it?
1. Because it is God's will.
2. Because God wishes all men be saved.
3. Because the Gospel is the faith of Christ Jesus without which one can not be born again a Child of God.

There are many reasons. But I think you are asking, "what is the Christian advantage?" Frankly, the advantage we enjoy is in all those things which you reject. The Church and the Sacraments. The Sacraments are fountains of grace which Jesus Christ established so that we could live life more fully.

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

It is because of the Seven Sacraments that St. Paul says:

Hebrews 12:21And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake
22But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,23To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,
24And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

All who reject the Church and the Sacraments must await the Judgement before they can walk with the Saints.

Peter in reporting what had happened at Cornelius' house once he gets back to Jerusalem throws more light on why Cornelius, by the angel's direction, had been instructed to send for him. The angel had told Cornelius that "Peter shall speak words to you by which you and all your household will be saved" (Acts 11:14). So there were words Cornelius needed to hear in order to be saved. How does this passage highlight the necessity of baptism to be born again? Whosoever believes in Him shall receive remission of sins (vs. 43). Not whosoever is baptized.
Whosoever believes will be Baptized (Mark 16:16).
Those who believe and are Baptized will receive the remission of sins (Acts 2:38).

The gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on these Gentiles when they believed and prior to getting water baptized. They spoke in tongues and magnified God. They were already born again prior to being water baptized. "Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?" (vs. 47).
That doesn't say they were born again before Baptism. Nor does it say they were saved. As I have already pointed out multiple times. Receiving the Holy Spirit is not a guarantee of salvation. Simply read Heb 6:4-6.

By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit (1 John 4:13). Because he had the Holy Spirit Cornelius abided in God and God abided in him. To abide in God and to have God abide in you does not describe someone who has not been born again but a saved believer who has been born again - such was the case of Cornelius before he was water baptized.
Abiding in God and God abiding in him describes a person who loves God and keeps His Commandments:
1 John 3:24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

Paul is speaking about the testing of works and says nothing about the suffering of souls.
1 Corinthians 3:15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

He is simply teaching that in the Day of Judgment, the works of every Christian will be tested ("the fire will test each one's work") and everyone will be rewarded accordingly.
What are you thinking? That this person kept his works in his pocket? The fire will try the faith of the man which is recorded in his soul:
1 Peter 1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

Unworthy works will be burned up
What are unworthy works? They are sins:
Proverbs 11:18 The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.

and the individual will lose the reward though he himself will be saved. If fire is referring to purgatorial pains, rather than the testing of works, why should those who had built with gold, silver, precious stones suffer along with those who had built with unworthy wood, hay and straw (since the fire test each one's work)?
Have you not read in Scripture?
Romans 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

Scripture sets the believer's heart to rest. "You were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God" (1 Corinthians 6:11). It's not purgatory's flames that cleanse the sinner from evil. The Word of God teaches that "the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin". The blood of Christ is thoroughly effective and purifies from all defilement. His blood really and actually cleanses "from all sin."
I agree. Where do you get it? I get it in the Eucharist:
Luke 22:20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
Hebrews 1:3 - who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. Purgatory denies the sufficiency of Christ's sacrifice on the cross for sin. The Roman Catholic Church, in more ways than one, teaches that Jesus is not sufficient.
On the contrary, Purgatory is pure mercy which is effected on the believer by Christ without his interference at all. God could simply let the imperfect believer go to hell. But instead, because he built a foundation upon Christ, he will be saved, by fire.

Did the thief on the cross go to purgatory or to paradise with Jesus THAT SAME DAY?
Why? Do you think that it is impossible for God? Or do you think the Thief saved himself?

How much time do people spend in purgatory according to the Roman Catholic church before they make it to heaven?
How much time to people spend on earth before they make it to heaven?

What bondage!
If it is bondage, it is the will of God we be bound and I accept the Will of God:
Revelation 2:10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

Did Paul say that it was possible for him to be disqualified for the prize
Yes.

or to receive eternal life?
Same prize.

Any humble person who honestly compares himself to God would see their complete need for Jesus to save them
Amen!

and not turn to supplements (rituals, sacraments, works, etc..) in addition to Jesus (Romans 3:23- 6:23).
That's a funny attitude. Jesus commanded that we perform these rituals (Luke 22:19), receive these Sacraments (Mark 16:16) and accomplish these works (Matt 25:31-46; John 14:21-24). It is because of our faith in Christ that we do these things.

Jesus needs no supplements. He is an allsufficient Savior.
There is not a question of what Jesus needs. It is a question of you needing to obey Him.

"Castaway" in the KJV. "Disqualified" in the NKJV, ESV, NASB and "disqualified for the prize" in the NIV. Paul means rejected for the prize, not for salvation. What is the prize before Paul? Is it that reward of which he spoke in verse 1 Corinthians 9:18 , his glorying of preaching a free gospel? What have we learned about rewards? (1 Corinthians 3:13-15). Is salvation a reward based on works or a gift based on faith? (Ephesians 2:8,9). So you equate the wreath or garland which was given as a prize to victors in public games to receiving eternal life? Does that sound like a gift to you? (Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8). Verse 24 - Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. If we apply your logic here, many people are running in a race to earn their salvation but only one will receive eternal life.
That is your logic. The logic of St. Paul is very simple. RUN LIKE A WINNER.

Think of the Olympics. Out of all those competing in a race all run, but only one receives a gold medal. Does this mean that only the gold medalist goes to heaven and those who receive a silver or bronze medal go to hell? What about those whose works are burned up, but they are still saved? (1 Corinthians 3:13-15). Did they run in such a way to receive the prize?
How do you read Scripture? Do you read each verse as though it were completely alone without a Christian understanding to support it? Read that same verse keeping in mind this teaching:
Luke 13:24 Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

Now do you understand what it means to run in such a way that you will obtain it?

In light of the context this does not mean loss of salvation. Through the self righteous lens of works salvation, it only appears that way.

Keep reading. Verse 17 - For if I do this willingly, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have been entrusted with a stewardship. No loss of salvation suggested.
Not that verse. Read the one before:
1 Corinthians 9:16For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!

Keep in mind what he has said elsewhere:
1 Corinthians 4:1 Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. 2Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

Therefore, WOE UNTO HIM WHO IS A MINISTER OF THE GOSPEL AND DOES NOT PREACH IT.

What had changed?
I suspect it is explained in 2 Cor:
2 Corinthians 12:1 It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord. 2I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth such an one caught up to the third heaven. 3And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth 4How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.

You deny this, but your words say otherwise. Saved by commandmentment keeping, the sacraments, justified by doing the law, service of and witness to the faith etc.. WORKS.
The fact that you don't understand what I'm saying says much about the level of indoctrination you will need to overcome in order to come to the truth. God saves those who keep the Commandments. God saves those who keep the Sacraments. God justifies those who keep the Law. God saves those who show their faith in their works.

You don't save yourself by your reliance upon your faith alone or otherwise.

We are saved through faith, not works, not faith AND works. Why do you keep ignoring the lack of the word AND?
Why do you keep ignoring the fact that faith alone is dead?
James 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

Why do you keep insisting on a doctrine which directly contradicts the Word of God?

Another misunderstanding by the Roman Catholic church which has added another work to salvation through faith. In Matthew 10:32-33, the broader context of this passage relates to the fact that the Pharisees had continuously denied Jesus while the disciples spoke about Him in every city they visited. We might paraphrase His teaching this way: "Whoever confesses me before men (such as you disciples), I will confess him before my Father in heaven. But whoever denies me before men (like these Pharisees do on every occasion they get), I will deny him before my Father in heaven. Those who confess Jesus are those who recognize Him as being the true Messiah and trust in Him for salvation. This is descriptive of a believer, not an additional requirement to become saved.
That which describes the believer is OBEDIENCE.

Those who deny Jesus (and those who give mere lip service confession) but refuse to trust in Him alone for salvation place themselves beyond any possibility of salvation, since salvation is found only in Him. The word for "deny" is an aorist tense. This points to the fact that Jesus is not talking about a single instance of denial (as was the case with Peter, who actually denied Him three times - Luke 22:34), but is referring to life in its entirety. Hence, the person who throughout his life denies Christ (as was typically the case with the Pharisess and includes unbelievers who give mere lip service confession but don't truly believe) will be denied by Christ before the Father. This is descriptive of unbelievers. Lip service confession apart from saving faith is not genuine confession.
You have just described the man who professes faith alone. He is giving mere lip service to faith in Christ since he deems unnecessary all which Christ has commanded.

I do await His Judgment to have my works tested by fire in order to receive rewards and loss of rewards, not salvation or loss of salvation (1 Corinthians 3:13-15).
That just means you have accepted Purgatory. Because Purgatory is only for those who will be saved. Notice that the wicked DO NOT GO TO PURGATORY. It is only a mercy of God extended to those who did not achieve perfection in this life.

I don't claim to know how this will turn out. God has already revealed who will be saved and who won't be saved. I don't have to wait to figure that out. He who BELIEVES IN HIM is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already.. (John 3:18).
18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Either we believe and we are saved or else we don't believe and we are condemned.
That is a false gospel.

Either we believe and do the works which God commands and are saved or we don't believe and deny God and are condemned.
Revelation 22:13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
14Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
15For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that BELIEVES (Romans 1:16).
Keep reading:
17For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. 18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 19Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse 21Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 26For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. 28And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which BELIEVE NOT.. (2 Corinthians 4:3,4).
Keep reading 2 Cor 5:9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. 10For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Either we BELIEVE the gospel and we are saved or else we don't believe the gospel and we are lost. God's Word is clear on this before the Judgment. There will be many self righteous people in shock at the Judgment who thought they should be saved based on their so called many wonderful works, (they confuse this with salvation through faith) yet they will be disappointed (Matthew 7:22-23). Jesus NEVER knew them.
Amen! Keep that firmly in mind. You think you are saved, relying upon your faith alone for salvation. But God is Great! It is He who is Judge. Not you.

That is what you have read into the Scripture. But the Scripture says otherwise.

If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, (1 Corinthians 3:15). What have I read into this? It's crystal clear. He who believes in Him shall not perish, is not condemned, has everlasting life, shall receive remission of sins, is justified from all things, shall be saved (John 3:16,18; 5:24; Acts 10:43; 13:39; 16:31). Why is this not clear to you? (1 Corinthians 2:11-14).
It is quite clear to me. He that does these things will be saved. I pray that I am amongst those. But I will not rely upon my faith nor upon my works but upon the mercy of God. You on the other hand, have declared yourself saved. Obviously, you care nothing about what God thinks in regards to your salvation. YOU HAVE DECIDED. You can have your judgement. I will await God's.

If God says that we have been justified by faith (Romans 5:1) and I have faith, then I have been justified according to God, not according to me. These are His words, not mine.
You claim to have faith and justify yourself. God will reveal whether you truly have faith. God will judge.

And how many of us have perfectly obeyed the Law?
Who knows? Does any man know?

I already explained this to you more than once.
And I corrected your explanation more than once.

This verse refers to the Jews who had the law and who heard the law.
Read more. It is about Jews and Gentile. In other words, about everyone.

It is not enough just to have the law. It is not enough just to hear the law. A person must DO (obey) the law.
Thank you. Therefore, faith alone is dead.

Paul’s argument is very simple: The Jews had the law (possessed it), they heard the law, but they did not do the law, and therefore the Jews are condemned! Paul is not teaching salvation through observing the law here which is clear from Romans 3:20 - "Therefore NO ONE WILL BE DECLARED RIGHTEOUS IN HIS SIGHT BY OBSERVING THE LAW; through the law we become conscious of sin." For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who BELIEVES (Romans 10:3-4). Are you ready to BELIEVE?
I already believe. It is you having trouble.

St. Paul is teaching a very simple concept. Those who are saved will be drawn from the pool of those who keep the Law. Those who are condemned will be drawn from the pool of they who do not keep the Law.

Please continue to prayerfully seek the truth.
And you as well.

Sincerely,

De Maria

This is embarrassing. I can't respond to comments on my own blog.

Someone asked me to respond to an anti-Catholic blog and I tried to answer, but everytime I submit my comment, it disappears. So, if you're there, here is what I said.

______________________

Hi, you've written a lot. I'd like to respond, but only a bit at a time. If I may start with your title:

COMPARING SCRIPTURES IN THE CATHOLIC NEW TESTAMENT BIBLE TO TEACHINGS FOUND IN THE CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH – DEAR CATHOLIC, ARE YOU GOING TO BELIEVE THE WORD OF GOD, OR THE WORD OF MAN?

This is not an either/or question. Both the New Testament and the Catechism of the Catholic Church contain the Word of God. They both contain the Teachings of Jesus Christ which are the basis of Catholic Tradition. You, Catholic Tradition is the basis of the New Testament. Jesus Christ established the Catholic Church and passed down His Teachings with the command that the Catholic Church must continue to pass down His Teachings throughout time. This is recorded in the New Testament:

Matthew 28:18-20 King James Version (KJV)

18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

And so, it is those who reject Catholic Teaching who are rejecting the Word of God.

Thanks for asking.

But I said that Christ is our Judge.

Luther said:

Jesus said, he who believes on Him is not condemned (John 3:18). Ephesians 2:8 says that we have been saved through faith (Ephesians 2:8). My faith is in Christ for salvation so according to His promise, I am saved. With His imputed righteousness, there is no sin to condemn. Jesus will judge my works. 1 Corinthians 3:13-15 - each one's work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is. If anyone's work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; (of reward) but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. Loss of reward (not loss of salvation) for works that are burned up, but the believer is still saved.
What do you make of this verse?
1 Corinthians 4:3-5

King James Version (KJV)

3But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self.
4For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.
5Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

Do you just cast it out of the Bible?

You place faith in partaking of the Sacraments, in obeying the Commandments etc.. (works) not completely in Him. Whatever you are trusting in to save you, that is what you believe/have faith in for salvation.
I place my faith in Christ. But I'm interested. You see, you confound the question very easily.

First, you condemn me because you claim that I say I am saved by works.

And then you condemn me because I don't claim that I am saved at all.

So, which is it? I'll tell you which it is. I've never claimed to be saved by any works or any Sacraments. I place my faith in Christ. It is you who claim to be saved by your faith, essentially bypassing the Just Judgement of the Just Judge.

It isn't about me being so faithful that I earned my salvation.
That's what it sounds like to me. It sounds as though you say, "I'm faithful, God has to save me."

Salvation is through faith, not works.
Scripture says:
Philippians 2:12

King James Version (KJV)

12Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

Hebrews 5:9

King James Version (KJV)

9And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

NOTICE that both of those are Pauline teachings.

I believe in Him for salvation and have received His imputed righteousness.
Where does Scripture say that anyone receives His imputed righteousness?

He is the reason I am saved. I have nothing to boast about, but so much to be thankful for! Praise God!
He is the reason those who obey are saved. He is the reason the Elect are saved. He is the reason we hope for salvation. But unless you are God, you don't know if you are saved.

Matthew 7:13-15

King James Version (KJV)

13Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
15Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

Matthew 7:21-23

King James Version (KJV)
21Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

1 Corinthians 10

1Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
2And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
3And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
4And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
5But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
6Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
7Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
8Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
9Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.
10Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.
11Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
12Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

Christ is their judge, but He has already made it clear - He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already.. (John 3:18). The Bible makes it clear. Works are not weighed and balanced to determine if we did enough of them to earn our salvation. That is not what the Judgment is about.
Yeah! He makes it clear:
Revelation 22:13-15

King James Version (KJV)

13I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
14Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
15For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

Matthew 25:31-46

King James Version (KJV)
31When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
32And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
33And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
34Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
41Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
42For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
43I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
45Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
46And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that BELIEVES (Romans 1:16).
Believing is more than an empty claim of faith alone.

What happened to baptism? Christ sent me not to baptized, but to preach the gospel (1 Corinthians 1:17). Notice the distinction. Mark 16:16 is talking about general cases without making a qualification for the unusual case of someone who believes but is not baptized. If water baptism is required for salvation, then why did Jesus Himself not mention it in the following verses? (3:15,16,18; 5:24; 6:29,40,47; 11:25,26).
Because He mentioned it Mark 16:16. How many times does Jesus need to say something before you believe Him?

What is the ONE requirement that Jesus mentions in each of these complete statements? BELIEVES. *What happened to baptism? This demonstrates that your faith is in baptism and not completely in Christ for salvation.
My faith is in Christ. That is why I believe what He said in Mark 16:16.

What happened to you? You claim to believe Jesus but you deny what He said in Mark 16:16.

Jesus here is giving a description of believers, not a requisite to become saved - He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. Jesus here is giving a description of unbelievers - He who does not love Me does not keep My words. This demonstrates that your faith is also in your best efforts to keep His commandments, and not completely in Christ for salvation.
On the contrary,
1st. it demonstrates that you justify your way out of believing Christ's words. It is very easy to see that Jesus is precisely giving a requisite for being saved. Unless you believe that the unbelievers who don't keep His Commandments are going to be saved?

2nd. it demonstrates that you either forget, ignore, or deny Christ's words in other verses. Christ has already said elsewhere:
Matthew 19:17

King James Version (KJV)

17And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

Mark 10:20-22

King James Version (KJV)

20And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.
21Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
22And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.

By faith we partake of Christ, and the benefits of His bodily sacrifice on the cross and the merits of His shed blood, receiving and enjoying eternal life. Eating and drinking is not with the mouth and the digestive organs of our bodies, but the reception of God’s grace by believing in Christ, as He makes abundantly clear by repeating the same truths both in metaphoric and plain language. Compare for example the following two verses:

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life” (v47).

“He who eats this bread will live forever” (v58).

“He who believes” in Christ is equivalent to “he who eats this bread” because the result is the same, eternal life. The parallel is even more striking between verses 40 and 54:

“Everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day” (v40).

“Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day” (v54).

John 6 does not afford any support to the Catholic doctrine of transubstantiation. On the contrary, it is an emphatic statement on the primacy of faith as the means by which we receive the grace of God. Jesus is the Bread of Life; we eat of Him and are satisfied when we believe in Him for salvation. This demonstrates that your faith is also in partaking of the bread and wine, and not completely in Christ for salvation.
You can keep telling yourself whatever you want in order to justify your denial of Christ's words. But believing in Christ MEANS believing and obeying His Words.

When He says that the bread is His Flesh. We believe that the bread is His Flesh.
When He says we must eat the bread which is His Flesh. We obey Him and eat the bread which is His Flesh.

That is what it means to believe in Christ. That is what it means to have faith in Christ.

Jesus mentions branches that produce no fruit (dead branches) and branches that bear fruit (vs. 2) but Jesus says nothing about branches that produced fruit but then stopped producing fruit and were cut off. The branches that bear no fruit represent unbelievers and the branches that bear fruit represent believers. This demonstrates that your faith is also in your best efforts to bear fruit (works), and not completely in Christ for salvation.
Again, my faith is in Christ. I don't judge my works. He does. What this demonstrates is that you believe you can take the place of Christ and not only judge your final end but mine.

That which you claim is not mentioned in that verse, was mentioned long ago in another:
Ezekiel 18:24

King James Version (KJV)

24But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.

This we do BECAUSE we are saved, not to become saved.
You judge yourself saved. You have your reward. I will await the judgement of my Lord.

After a casual reading of the Parable of the Sheep and Goats (Matthew 25:31-46), it seems that these verses suggest that salvation is the result of good deeds.
You like to read into Scripture your prejudices. What it says is that God saves those who do His Will.

However, this is clearly not the meaning of the Parable of the Sheep and Goats. All Scripture proves itself right and non-contradictory when compared with the totality of Scripture. This passage has to be taken alongside the whole of Scripture. It is not advocating salvation by works. That would be contrary to Romans 4:4-6; Ephesians 2:8,9; 2 Timothy 1:9; Titus 3:5 etc... One's works are an effect of (and therefore indication of) one's salvation status, rather than being a cause of one's salvation. This is not performance based salvation, but salvation based performance. The good deeds mentioned in Matthew 25:35-36 are merely the fruit that will be manifest in the lives of the redeemed. Notice verse 37 begins, "Then shall the righteous answer" (emphasis added). It doesn't say, "Then shall the good doers answer." Those who are placed at Christ's right hand are not there because of/based on their own good deeds, but because Christ imputed His righteousness to them (Romans 4:2-6; Philippians 3:9). When works are mentioned in connection with salvation, the works are always the result of, not the basis of, salvation. The stress is on works as a manifestation of one's faith (or lack thereof), not simply on the faith from which these works follow. So it is understandable that in this context, Matthew would stress the works that are a manifestation of "faith by which one receives eternal life." Notice how love for other Christians is an indication of one's salvation status: 1 John 3:10 - In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother. He who practices righteousness and loves his brother does this because he is "of God" not to become of God. 1 John 3:14 - We know that we have (past tense) passed from death to life, because we love our brothers (present tense). Loving our brothers is the result of, not the condition of passing from death to life. In verse 46, notice that therighteous go into eternal life. Who are the righteous? But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness (Romans 4:5). This demonstrates that your faith is also in your best efforts to accomplish good deeds, and is not completely trusting in Christ for salvation.
You are twisting the Scripture to justify your beliefs. Scripture is quite clear:
Romans 2:13

King James Version (KJV)

13(For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
Revelation 22:13-15

King James Version (KJV)
13
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

14Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
15For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

2 Peter 1:5-10

King James Version (KJV)

5And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
6And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
7And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
8For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
10Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

Children of righteousness don't sit around clueless to whether or not they are saved. They know they are saved and will be judged to receive rewards or loss of rewards.

That is not what Scripture says:
1 Corinthians 9:27

King James Version (KJV)

27But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

According to the works based false gospel of the Roman Catholic church, one could not have assurance of salvation because one could not ever know for sure that they did enough works to earn their salvation. The Roman Catholic church keeps people in bondage.
Which is it? Does the Church claim we are saved by our works? Or does the Church say we do not know we are saved? You know the truth. You know that we rely upon the Judgement of Christ. Whereas you rely upon yourself.

I already know that God justifies and the Law doesn't.
But apparently you justify yourself by your faith. Whereas, it is God who justifies those who keep His law. Not those who claim faith alone.

God doesn't leave us in the dark as to whether or not we have been justified by faith. He plainly tells us that we have been in Romans 5:1, if our faith is in Christ alone for salvation.
But your faith is in yourself. Not in Christ.

Through the Sacraments is nowhere mentioned here in Romans 3:22. The righteousness of God which is by faith...unto all and upon all them that believe: This is how the Roman Catholic church adds works to the gospel of grace.
Notice that it doesn't say by faith alone. And just the one chapter before, it says, "doers of the Law are justified."

I have not ignored the rest of the Bible at all. I addressed (and did not ignore) the verses that you cited to try and support your arguments.
So you haven't. I will leave it to the readers to decide between you and I, whose interpretation makes more sense.

We are to work out the salvation that we already have through faith in Christ,
That doesn't makes sense. If you already are saved, you don't have to work out your salvation in FEAR AND TREMBLING.

not work for the salvation that we don't yet have.
True. But I didn't say that and the Church doesn't teach that. So, that is your straw man.

The verse does not say, "work for your salvation."
work out

verb

Definition of WORK OUT

transitive verb
1
a : to bring about by labor and exertion <work out your own salvation — Philippians 2:12 (Authorized Version)>b : to solve (as a problem) by a process of reasoning or calculation

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/work out

THAT is precisely what it means.

These Philippians had already been saved.
If that is so, why does he also admonish them to:
14Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
15That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
16Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

One must possess salvation first, and then we work it out to it's ultimate conclusion in the process of ongoing sanctification. We continually grow to be more like Christ because we are saved, not to become saved. That is not work for "to become saved." Salvation has three tenses. Justification, Sanctification and Glorification. People who teach works salvation end up confusing justification with ongoing sanctification. Notice that verse 12 does not end with a period, but with a comma. It would be incorrect to stop reading there, for we would not understand what God was inspiring Paul to tell us. Verse 13 continues, after a comma, “for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.” "To whom did Paul say, "Work out your own salvation?" To lost people or saved people? So the sense in which we are to work out our salvation in fear and trembling is twofold. First, the Greek verb rendered “work out” means "to continually work to bring something to completion or fruition." We do this by actively pursuing obedience in the process ofsanctification, which Paul explains further in the next chapter of Philippians. He describes himself as “straining” and “pressing on” toward the goal of Christlikeness (Philippians 3:13-14). The “trembling” he experiences is the attitude Christians are to have in pursuing this goal—a healthy fear of offending God through disobedience and an awe and respect for His majesty and holiness. Salvation by works is not being taught here.
Sanctification is very important. We must achieve perfection before we enter heaven:
Revelation 21:26-28

King James Version (KJV)

26And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.
27And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.

Sincerely,

De Maria

Protestant objections to the Gospel

Luther:
That the "Roman Catholic church" has added.

Prayers for the dead,
Have you not read in Scripture when St. Paul prayed for the soul of Onesiphorus?

2 Timothy 1:15-18

King James Version (KJV)

15This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.
16The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain:
17But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me.
18The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.

veneration of angels & dead saints,
Abraham was long dead, and the Jews reverently called him and their ancestors, Fathers:
Luke 1:55

King James Version (KJV)

55As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.

As did the Apostles:
James 2:21

King James Version (KJV)

21Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?

Matthew 10:40-42

King James Version (KJV)

40He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
41He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.
42And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

This is veneration. St. Paul venerates all the saints of the past in an entire chapter:
Hebrews 11:8

King James Version (KJV)

8By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.....Hebrews 12

1Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Faith working through love is the Gospel

Rick asks:
The Gospel as Faith Working Through Love ???

Correct. The Gospel is God’s (covenantal) love for his people; That is only part of the truth. The Gospel is also Jesus’ example to His people that they should follow in His steps:

1 Peter 2:21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: The Gospel is also God calling to His people:

Matthew 9:13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. And the Gospel also shows the example of many who responded to God’s call:

Acts 2:47
Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. And this is not all that the Gospel is, but only a short summary.
it is not man’s love for his neighbor
Yes, it is:
Matthew 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Love of God and love of neighbor is the complete Gospel. There is nothing else.

though that should flow on and follow as indeed should man’s love for God We should surely not confuse cause and effect
We haven’t.

If we do, the outside world might well have a very big picture of the church but a very small picture of God – which I take it is not what we want
God is love and love makes the world go round. If the world has a small picture of God, it is the world which will suffer for it. But we are not of the world:
John 15:18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. 19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. 20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
Sincerely,
De Maria

Bob asks:

De Maria,
Is your understanding of the Magisterium infallible?
There’s a difference between Catholic and Protestant in this respect.

I don’t interpret the Magisterium. I obey. Therefore, I need not be infallible.

Whereas, Protestants interpret the Scriptures. Create their own doctrines which may or may not agree with Scripture. And essentially live according to their own designs

I’ll give you an example. When I first came back to the Church, there were several doctrines with which I disagreed. But I sucked it up and accepted them anyway.

Protestants are never in that situation because they essentially make up their own religion. Correct me if I’m wrong.
