Remember them which have spoken unto you the word of God

Prittie,

I am a born again Christian. Whatever is hard wired in there is by God. the Bible promises that God will teach us all things and bring all things to remmemberance, whatsoever Jesus said unto you" Jesus said that to his apostles before he left the earth. So we have the Holy Spirit that discerns things whetehr they be good or bad. We also have common sense and a brain God gave us. We also have our eyes and ears and we can see for ourselves. I'd say by those various compasses, I am safe. When baloney comes my way, it is easy to see, no hard wiring even needed.. its just common sense. and that common sense plus the Holy Spirit is a baloney meter (or that other word we use for "baloney' which I dont think i can post here because its a swear word, but it begins with a b. and ends with an s. People are so blind when hey blindly follow traditions based on man. They have a form of godliness but deny God.
The Bible also says:

Hebrews 13:7

King James Version (KJV)

7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.

Hebrews 13:17

King James Version (KJV)

17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

What do you do with those verses? Cast them out?

Sincerely,

De Maria

Protestantism contradicts Scripture.

Protestants teach Scripture alone. Scripture teaches Scripture and Tradition:
2 Thessalonians 2:15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.

Protestants teach faith alone. Scripture teaches faith and works:
James 2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

Protestants teach not to follow men but Christ alone. Scripture teaches us to follow the Holy men of God who teach us the faith:

Hebrews 13:7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.

Protestants teach disobedience. Scripture teaches obedience unto salvation:

Hebrews 5:9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

and many more things the Protestants teach in direct contradiction of the Word of God.

The people who don't agree with the Catholic Church, are deceived

LG said:The rules must not be so standard since so many people disagree with the Catholic eisegete.

The people who don't agree with the Catholic Church are those that are deceived by the Enemy. The Catholic Church is the Church of Jesus Christ:
Matthew 16:18-19

King James Version (KJV)
18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Sincerely,

Protestants teach heresy

Disco said:The Bible doesn't teach obedience to leades no matter what. The Bible doesn't teach obedience to heretics. Paul said follow him as he followed Christ not follow him if he decided to become a heretic.

That is true. The Bible doesn't teach obedience to heretics. Therefore, leave the Protestants behind. Because they teach many heresies.

Catholics are the blind following the blind.

The Catholic Church teaches the wisdom of God:

Ephesians 3:10

King James Version (KJV)
10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,

Sincerely,

De Maria

When do you, as a Protestant, obey Hebrews 13:17?

Adam:
A Catholic in another thread says this verse means he will pick and choose when he will obey his bishop and when he will not.

I follow the Church. Not individual Catholics who may or may not understand their faith.

Are we supposed to be impressed?

By what? By certain individuals? You are supposed to be impressed by the Word of God carried in Scripture and Tradition (2 Thess 2:15) and you are supposed to be so impressed that you obey God in that Word (Heb 5:9).

Sorry, but that verse says absolutely nothing about any sacrament or anything about confession.

It is because you don't understand the Traditions of Jesus Christ that you don't recognize the Sacrament of Confession which is there illustrated.

It is in the Sacrament of Confession most explicitly that we submit to and obey the Priests.
It is in the Sacrament of Confession most explicitly that the Priest is held accountable for our souls.

But you are ignoring the question. When do you, as a Protestant, obey this verse? More likely, you toss it out of the Scriptures and ignore it, since you are taught to follow no man and obey no man.

We know you guys like to make up tons of garbage as you go, but this one takes the cake.

That verse is in Scripture, the Word of God. When do you obey it?

Sincerely,

De Maria

Analysis of a Conversion, Three Tsunamis of grace

Grace alone is not Catholic Teaching
Before I begin, I want to remind Catholics that the Doctrine of Grace alone is a false doctrine which Protestants invented in order to deny the authority of the Church, the authority of Priests, the efficacy of the Sacraments and the necessity of good works.
The Catholic Church Teaches the necessity of Grace and that all things are by God’s grace.  Therefore, the Church, our Priests, the Sacraments and even the works which we do are the result of God’s grace.  But it is by our participation in the grace that it becomes efficacious in our lives.  The Catechism puts it this way:
1847 "God created us without us: but he did not will to save us without us." To receive his mercy, we must admit our faults. "If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

Why are we talking about Grace alone?
When I came back to faith in God, I was confused about this, because, well, let me just tell it.

By this time, I was married
As I’ve mentioned, I was an atheist from the around 7 years of age.  And I was going along on my merry, atheistic way.  I met a beautiful young lady, Catholic, and we were married.  I was married, three years, to my Catholic wife and hiding my atheism from her, because I loved her and didn’t want to give her any undue distress.
We were married in the Church because she wouldn’t have it any other way.  She said, “Either we get married in the Church or we don’t get married.”  It was an ultimatum.
So, we got married in the Church.  Although, I gave the poor priest fits at every opportunity.  I don’t think he’d ever met a more uncooperative and unappreciative groom.  But he stuck to his guns and we had a perfectly valid and orthodox wedding.  So everyone thought.  Except that I didn't believe in God, which is definitely a canonical impediment.  (Don't worry, we've done it again, this time everything was right.)
Anyway, afterwards, I rarely went to Church with my wife, except for big events, to keep the peace.  On her part, my wife never nagged. She went to Mass, if not every Sunday.  At least, regularly.  She might miss for emergencies and special occasions.  But that was it.

First Tsunami, we’re going to have a baby
We had been trying to have a baby, for three years.  One day, in late October or early November, 1986, I came home from work to find my wife in the kitchen.  She was working back then, so it was rare to find her home.  We normally drove home from our respective jobs at around the same time.
Anyway, when she heard me, she walked up to me and said, “We’re having a baby.”  At that instant, I was transported.  It was as though there were an added depth or dimension to the present moment. Like moving in slow motion.  But, since I’ve always been hard of hearing.  And therefore, frequently misunderstand what people have actually said.  I heard myself ask her to repeat it.  She did.  And it confirmed what I thought I heard.

I didn’t realize it, but I was on Cloud 9
I don’t know if you’ve ever felt that way.  I’ve actually had a great deal of experience with that, since I was an avid reader and an athlete.  It’s like when you’re reading a great book and you’re so absorbed that you lose track of time and reality.  You’re literally living in the book.
Or, when you’re playing an intense game and you’re lost in the moment.  I remember when I was in high school, playing basketball and the coach would call a time out.  He would have to snap us out of our fixation so that we could hear and understand what he was saying.  They call it, being in the zone.
This was very much like that, but in my opinion, deeper.  I could see and hear everything, but everything was moving in slow motion and colors were richer and deeper.  I walked outside and for the first time, I could see God’s hand at work in the universe.
From one moment to the next, I went from atheist to believer.  In one instant, I believed in God and all His goodness.  Every argument that I had ever used to deny God’s existence, I could now turn around to prove God’s existence.  I believe I received a gift of infused knowledge at that moment.  But I did not realize it.
All I know is that I looked at a cloud and knew with all certainty that God had put it there and that God was moving it.  I looked at a leaf and all the random veins within it and knew that God was the reason for those little canals.  I also knew that I had very little to do with the life that was being knit in my wife’s womb.  All I really did was have fun one night and now, something wonderful was happening and I was only the recipient of this gift.  Not its author.
That day,  I changed profoundly.  Before, I never thought about God.  From that moment, all I could think of was how I could repay God for such a wonderful gift.  I couldn’t think of anything.  So, I made up my mind to simply say “Thank you.”  Every waking moment, for the rest of my life.

Second Tsunami, productivity videos
The first tsunami of grace took me up into the heavens, in joy.  The second tsunami, knocked me to my knees, in tears.
Here’s how that started.  It was still 1986, around late November or early December.  The time of the year when nothing gets done around the office because of Thanksgiving and Christmas parties.  I was an accountant/auditor for a very large hospital.  One of the two largest in the world.  So, they picked this time to give us some continuing education.  They sent our whole office to a seminar on how to increase worker productivity.
The seminar consisted of two videos which we were to watch and then discuss.  Anyway, I think it was just two.  That’s all I remember.  The first one was about an experiment conducted by some big outfit, where they turned up the lights while people in a factory were working.  They turned them up and got more productivity.  So, at first they concluded that better visibility increased productivity.  Then they turned them down.  The more they turned them down, the more productive the people got.
Conclusion.  The lighting doesn’t matter, its whether management is paying attention that matters.  Its called the observation effect.
The second video was about a little girl who seemed to have a chronic injury on her forehead.  The Mom had brought her to a hospital to see why the wound kept coming back.  The Doctors couldn’t figure anything out.  But they started noticing that the wound would reappear or become aggravated every time the Mom visited.  They started to suspect the Mom was causing the injury.  So, they installed some hidden video cameras and had the Mom come to see her child.  The Mom came in and sat coldly with her child.  Then, the Mom left.  As soon as she was out the door, the child took a toy and smashed it against her forehead and howled in distress.  The Mom then rushed in and cradled the child in her arms and did her best to sooth her pain.
It turns out that the only time the child received affection from her Mom, was when she was sick or injured.
And THAT floored me.  I don’t know what lesson I was supposed to learn.  But all I saw was a baby that needed love.  And I couldn’t stop crying.  Most of the people in my office were moms.  I just told them that the film had really affected me.  But I cried and cried, all the way to the office and for many weeks.  Not just at the office, but also at home.  I couldn’t look at a child without remembering the child in the video and breaking down.
Thank God it was the holiday season, because everybody’s productivity was down.  I couldn't do any work.  I spent hours on my knees in my cubicle, calling out to God (quietly, in my thoughts, of course) and asking Him to take care of my baby that was on the way.  I had come to realize that even if I was around, so many things could happen to my baby that were beyond my control.
I didn’t recover from that until the New Year.  Actually, I have never really recovered from that.  Even now, just thinking about that little girl, I’m tearing up.
I didn’t know it then, but that is a spiritual gift.  It is called the gift of tears.

One of my dumb thoughts
Before the second tsunami but after the first, I had a dumb thought pop into my head.  I had decided that I would not teach my child anything about God.  I’d let her, (somehow I knew she was a girl), decide for herself.  I’d let her go to Church with her Mom and I’d just keep on living my life.

I had never been afraid of hell
I couldn’t imagine it.  It was too distant a place.
During one of those times that I was crying on my knees in my cubicle, I realized that children don’t do as you tell them.  They do as you do.  I could see my little girl going to hell along with me.  And that is when I became afraid of hell, for her sake.  I couldn’t forgive myself if my child wound up in hell, even if she was there with me.
So, from that point, I decided that I would teach my child all that I knew about God.  And I also became determined to learn all that I could about Him.

Third tsunami, my daughter was born
My mom and grandma had always said that every child brings a basket of grace.  I don’t know if its a Mexican saying or what.  But my child didn’t bring a little basket.  She brought brought a whole truckload!
My daughter was born and we were in the hospital.  When I had her in my arms and had a little privacy, I dedicated her to God.  I simply said, “God, you know that I can’t raise her without you.  I am giving her back to You.  Right now!  You have to take care of her.  Because without you, I can do nothing.”
I was on Cloud 9 again and I told my wife I was going to call my mom and give her the good news.  There was a bank of pay phones downstairs in the waiting room.  So, I went there to call my mom.  The telephones were at the entrance to the waiting room and the waiting room was nearly empty.  Just a couple of people.  One man, sitting quietly on one side of the room.  And another, standing on the opposite side, looking out the window.

The Voice
As I picked up the phone, I heard a voice directly behind me.  So close that I felt the warm breath on the back of my neck.  “When will you keep your promises?”  I turned around, but no one was there.  Confused, I looked from one end of the waiting room to the other.  No one was close to me.
Then I heard the Voice again, “When will you keep your promises?”  Then, my life was opened before my eyes and I could see myself from the time I was a child to the present, always promising God that I would go to Church if He would only do this or that for me.
Then, I came  back to the moment.  Determined to keep my promises.  At the time, I was confused about one thing.  I knew that when I made those promises, I meant the Catholic Mass.  But, I no longer believed in the Catholic Church.  So, I didn’t know where God wanted me to go to Church in order to keep my promise.  It couldn’t possibly be the Catholic Church, could it?
This is when I went through about a three year process of studying various religions until I came back to the Catholic Church.  You can read about that, here.

My confusion about grace alone
Perhaps you will understand why I came back believing in the doctrine of grace alone.  It wasn’t until I realized that the doctrine is used by Protestant to deny the fact of man’s free will response to God’s love that I understood my error.
Obviously, if we do not accept God’s grace and act upon it, we remain in the same condition that we were in before.  You should realize that this is just a summary of my conversion.  There were times when I thought I was simply going nuts and was tempted to deny the grace of God.  But, thanks to God, I didn’t.

Afterwards
After coming back to the Catholic Church, I realized that I needed to share the gift that I had received. And so, I’ve dedicated myself to teaching the Catholic Faith from that point.  First to my children and then, to anyone who will listen.

Thanks for listening.  I hope my conversion is a blessing to you.  I hope it also gives you hope and consolation if your spouse or children are far from God.

It is Protestants who follow false teachers

Disco says:
They pass the buck to others to tell them what to believe, convince themselves they can't be wrong, and then feel secure. But they're not secure.

What does the Scripture say on that matter?

Philippians 2:12

King James Version (KJV)
12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

1 Corinthians 10:12

King James Version (KJV)
12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

And the idea that if you follow a heretic leader that teaches blasphemies God will hold that leader responsible and not you is just another way they try to make themselves feel secure and not have to make decisions on what's true or what's not.

That is you arguing against something you made up. I have yet to see the Church teach that doctrine. But if you claim it is true, provide the official doctrine from Church documents.

God WILL hold them responsible for following false teachers and teachings that clearly contradict His word. I wish I could find that quote.

God will hold Protestants responsible for following false teachings and false teachers:
2 Timothy 4:3

King James Version (KJV)
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

Tell me when you, as a Protestant, obey this verse?

Hebrews 13:17Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

As far as I can see, most Protestants don't even know that verse is in the Bible. That is why the continually berate Catholics for submitting to the Sacrament of Confession which this verse describes. And also for accepting the authority of the Priests which this verse also confirms. But Protestants completely ignore this verse, as they do many others in Scripture.

And how about this one?

James 2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

The Protestant doctrine of faith alone directly contradicts that verse of Scripture.

Yeah, it is Protestants who follow false teachers and will be held accountable to God for their errors.

Sincerely,

De Maria

Reformers do not believe in the Holy Scriptures but in the traditions of the men who rebelled against the Church

RB asks:Why does an individual whose beliefs are rooted in the teachings of Roman Catholicisms' interpretation of the Bible differ greatly from the interpretation of the Bible by an individual non-RC, born again Christian, whose faith is in Christ alone, and whose beliefs are grounded in Holy Scripture?
Because non-Catholics who rely upon the teachings of the Reformers do not believe in the Holy Scriptures but in the traditions of the men who rebelled against the Church of God. Here's an example. Tell me when you, as a Protestant, obey this verse?

Hebrews 13:17

King James Version (KJV)
17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

James 2:24

King James Version (KJV)
24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

The Protestant doctrine of faith alone directly contradicts that verse of Scripture.

Sincerely,

De Maria

I see where faith produces works

NC asks:

How can works be necessary for salvation if salvation produces works?
Show me where Scripture says that salvation produces works. I see where faith produces works:
James 2:14

King James Version (KJV)

14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

I believe you to be absolutely correct. If any kind of work other than the work of Christ on the cross was necessary then the work of Jesus was not sufficient, as more is needed than His sacrifice.
Christ seems to think that a great deal of work is necessary in addition to His sacrifice:
Matthew 25:31-46

King James Version (KJV)

31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Note that this judgment takes place on the day of Judgment in the after life. Long after Christ has died and risen to the right hand of the Father. And at that point, He will decide who is saved or not, according to the works they have done on this earth.

I always use the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians to help on this topic too. Love is produced by the spirit. Jesus said, "If you love me, obey my commandments." If man could be obedient and do works in and of Himself without the redemptive sanctification process that is mentioned in the fruit of the spirit, then man can take the glory for the works.
If that were true, then Abraham would have been justified and saved when he first heard the voice of God, in Gen 12:

Genesis 12:1-4

King James Version (KJV)

1 Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
4 So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

Note that St. Paul says that Abraham (i.e. Abram) acted by faith at this early time in the process of his justification:

Hebrews 11:8

King James Version (KJV)

8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

If faith alone were the criteria for justification, then Abraham would not have been justified decades later, in Gen 15:6. Or again in Gen 22:18.

Therefore, one is justified and ultimately saved by faith and works:
James 2:24

King James Version (KJV)

24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

This sheds some new light on the verse that you quoted, "lest any man should boast." It's all for God glory, not mine.
That is true. But how do you glorify God and disobey His word?
Philippians 2:11-13

King James Version (KJV)

11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

God does the work in our hearts which results in the works of our bodies, He then gets the glory and not me.
Absolutely! But that's an argument for faith and works. Not for faith alone.
Galatians 5:6
For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

This is the same thing that is written in the rest of Ephesians 2:8-10 which you have quoted. Those works were created for believers to do.
Read it again. We were created for good works. From the moment we were conceived in our mother's womb, we were created to step into the good works which God established from the beginning, the Ten Commandments.

We are predestined upon our faith in Jesus to do good works as we are conformed to His likeness as the verses state.
All of us are born in the image of the Son of God. That is why He came in the flesh, the firstfruit of the dead.

So if God created the works for us to do,
The Ten Commandments.

[quoteHe changed our hearts and minds to be willing to do them and gave us the ability to do them, what credit can we then take? It's all for His glory.[/QUOTE]Amen! But not by faith alone. Faith alone is dead. It is by faith working in love that we are justified unto the Glory of God. As the Scripture says:
Hebrews 5:8-10

King James Version (KJV)

8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
10 Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.

Sincerely,

De Maria

Scripture says we are saved by....

By grace:

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

By faith:
Luke 7:50 And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

By works:
James 2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

By hope:
Romans 8:24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?

by keeping the Commandments:
Matthew 19:17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

By doing the Father's will:
Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.By patient continuance in well doing:Romans 2:7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

By feeding the hungry:
Matt 24:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: 36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

But not by faith alone:
1 Corinthians 13:2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

We do however, honor all of God's friends

KT said:

No sorry, unlike what the priests teach, I desire no one to bow before me in worship like they are taught to do with the dead saints.

We don't worship the Saints. We do however, honor all of God's friends:

Genesis 12:2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:3And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Therefore, we bless the friends of God whose name He has made great in the Church.

Sincerely,

De Maria

Just do good and we'll find a meeting point

Have you read this in Scripture?

Luke 12:10 And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.

Obviously, Jesus, Himself, explains that even those who attack Jesus Christ (i.e. Son of man), may be forgiven. Therefore, those who do the will of God and yet do not know Christ, as, for instance, the Jews, may, in the end, be forgiven.

Acts 10:34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: 35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

Jesus Christ is explicit, that even some who reject Him, will be saved. Scripture is also explicit, that it is Jesus who judges who is saved.

Romans 2:16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

As the parable is clear to explain, it is not the one who denies Christ by word which will be condemned. But the one who does not do His will:

Matthew 21:28 But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.
29 He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went.
30 And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.
31 Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.
32 For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.

Therefore, God judges a man by his works. Not by his faith alone.

Coming to Christ means coming to His Sacraments which are administered by His Church. Those who do not come to His Church do not come to Christ and must await the Judgment in order to receive the grace of eternal life. All who deny the Sacraments put themselves under the law and are judged according to the law.

But Judgment comes first to the House of God, through the Sacraments. Wherein, those who do the Will of God, walk amongst the Saints of God, in this life.

1 Peter 4:17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

Even though atheists and Jews and Muslims might be saved, it is by no means going to be easy for them to be so.

Frankly speaking, it won't be easy for any ANTI-Catholics to be saved. The Catholic Church (and the other Sacramental, Apostolic Churches, such as the Orthodox) affords the greatest assistance for salvation, in the Sacraments of Jesus Christ.

Mark 9:40 For he that is not against us is on our part.

Jesus is explaining that many people will inadvertently reject Christ even when Christ is the One whom they seek and await:

John 5:38 And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not. 39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. 40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

John 16:2 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.

Unlike you or I, God can read the heart.

Have you not read in Scripture that:

Matthew 21:31 Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

This is why Pope Francis said,
"Francis based his homily on the message of Christ to his disciples taken from the Gospel of Mark. Francis delivered his message by sharing a story of a Catholic who asked a priest if atheists were saved by Christ.
"They complain," Francis said, "If he is not one of us, he cannot do good. If he is not of our party, he cannot do good." He explained that Jesus corrected them, "Do not hinder him, he says, let him do good."
The disciples, Pope Francis explained, "were a little intolerant," closed off by the idea of possessing the truth, convinced that "those who do not have the truth, cannot do good." "This was wrong... Jesus broadens the horizon." Pope Francis said, "The root of this possibility of doing good - that we all have - is in creation."
"Even them, everyone, we all have the duty to do good, Pope Francis said on Vatican Radio.
"Just do good" was his challenge, "and we'll find a meeting point."
Francis explained himself, "The Lord created us in His image and likeness, and we are the image of the Lord, and He does good and all of us have this commandment at heart, do good and do not do evil. All of us. 'But, Father, this is not Catholic! He cannot do good.' Yes, he can... "The Lord has redeemed all of us, all of us, with the Blood of Christ, all of us, not just Catholics. Everyone! 'Father, the atheists?' Even the atheists. Everyone!" We must meet one another doing good. 'But I don't believe, Father, I am an atheist!' But do good: we will meet one another there."

Now, Protestants will object that we are saved by "faith alone."

But Scripture proves them wrong. Because Scripture says that faith alone is a gong and a clanging cymbal. Whereas, love (i.e. charity) is the greatest of these. And good works, are expressions of love:

1 Corinthians 13:1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. 4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. 8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. 9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.  11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.  12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

Galatians 5:6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

Faith alone, is dead.

The Catholic Church passes down all the Apostles wanted to be taught

HR said:Not correct. What we dont understand is why Catholics prefer dogma created centuries later as preferable to the intent of the apostles agreed upon by protestant experts and Catholic experts alike.
Because that isn't true. That is a false statement. It is Protestants who prefer doctrines created 1500 years later to the teachings of Christ.

We dont understand why you prefer dogma that does not consider the original intent of the apostles.
That is another false statement. It is Catholics who understand the true intent of the Apostles whereas Protestants impose the intent of Luther.

That simply makes no sense to us yet that is the fact regarding RCC dogma.

It doesn't make sense because it isn't true.

Here is Fr Raymond Brown to explain:
"The Roman Catholic church has rarely, if ever, defined what a text meant
to the person who wrote it.The church encourages interpreters of Scripture
to discover with all the sholarly means available to them what individual
passages meant when they were written and encourages all its members to
read the Bible for spiritual nourishment. Church interpretation for Catholics
deals primarily, not with what the biblical text meant when it was written,
but with what it means for the life of the Christian community in
subsequant eras."
Raymond Brown, 101 Questions and Answers To The Bible. page 120 Imprimatur
Yes, we know you dont like him.

It is you who don't like him. You keep stressing things that you want to believe but ignoring things you don't want anyone to see. You do the same with the writings of the Popes. Did you not read this statement?

The church encourages interpreters of Scripture
to discover with all the sholarly means available to them what individual
passages meant when they were written and encourages all its members to
read the Bible for spiritual nourishment.

You want us to believe your opinions rather than the world wide reknown expert on the bible.

We rely upon the Word of God. And the Word of God tells us to rely upon the Church:
Ephesians 3:10

King James Version (KJV)
10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,

Fr. Raymond Brown is a wonderful scholar, but he is not infallible. God's Church is infallible.

Then you wonder why we dont understand how you think?

We wonder why you don't understand that which is plainly written in front of you. We wonder how you can, in good conscience, claim all those bizarre things that you impose upon the authors which you claim to be using as references. That is what we wonder. And I've noticed that it is not just Catholics who wonder about your claims. It is also Protestants who have remarked about this.

Sincerely,

De Maria

Protestant Assumptions about the Assumption

What came first, the chicken or the egg?
What came first? The doctrine? Or the practice? In my opinion, Protestants function under the premise that:
a. all doctrine is first, written down.
b. the Church issues the doctrine in some sort of edict.
c. the Catholic faithful now begin to follow this doctrine.
Although that is how God promulgated the Ten Commandments in the Old Testament. That is probably the only occasion when a doctrine was first written and then issued. In the New Testament, Jesus Christ did not write anything down. He commanded that His Teachings be passed down by the Church, but did not, as far as we know, restrict the teaching to any particular methodology. He neither required that His Teachings be written down, nor did He forbid it.
Specifically, in the case of the Assumption of Mary, this did not occur until well after Jesus Himself ascended into heaven. Jesus did not say, "in the future, my Mom will be assumed into heaven and you will issue a doctrine to this effect." No.
What actually happened? We have historical evidence that by the 3rd century, which means in the years from 200-299 AD, the Catholic faithful were making pilgimages to an empty tomb. Not Jesus' empty tomb. But Mary's empty tomb and celebrating there, the "Dormition" (Falling asleep/Death) of Mary.
What came first, the practice or the evidence of the practice?
Related to that which I mentioned above, we also find that when the Church shows evidence of the faithful celebrating a certain doctrine, many people, especially Protestants will say, "That is when they began to celebrate the doctrine."
That is false reasoning. We find that the Assumption of Mary was a well established practice by the 3rd century. Our Lady passed away in the late first century. Around that time that Jerusalem was destroyed (75 AD) and the Apostles were dispersed throughout the world. Our Lady remained with St. John and it was he who first wrote about the Assumption of Mary in Revelation 12.
Between that time and the 3rd century, we find evidence of an established practice. Faithful throughout Christendom make regular pilgrimages to the empty tomb of Mary. And they begin to write about the Assumption of Mary in apocryphal works
Sola Scriptura vs Theological or Biblical principles.
Sola Scriptura is the doctrine that all Christian doctrines must be explicitly in Scripture. Although Protestants in this day and age have learned that Sola Scriptura is not in explicitly taught in Scripture and will therefore deny this definition for Sola Scriptura. Nonetheless, they will reject any Catholic doctrine which is not explicitly in Scripture on the grounds that it isn't explicitly in Scripture. For example, if I say, 1 Cor 3:15 is the basis for the doctrine of Purgatory. The typical Protestant response will be, "where does that say Purgatory?"
By the same token, they will provide 2 Tim 3:16 as the basis for Sola Scriptura and cry foul when we ask, "Where does that say, Sola Scriptura?"
Theological or Biblical principles are guidelines by which we live our lives and understand the Word of God in Scripture and Tradition. They are consistent with the Word of God in Scripture and Tradition, but may not necessarily be there explicitly.
For instance, there is a Biblical principle that good people go to heaven. Therefore I believe that Adam, Eve and Abel are in heaven. They seemed like good people who sinned but repented and therefore I believe they went to heaven. The Bible doesn't say these people are in heaven, does it?
On the other hand, the Bible teaches that bad people who don't repent of their evil ways go to hell. Cain didn't seem to repent. I would say he's in hell. The Bible doesn't explicitly say that Cain is in hell, does it?
Do you see what I mean?
Now, the Bible says that Enoch was translated to heaven. Does the Bible say why?
Compare Enoch's description to the other Patriarchs:
Genesis 5:22And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:....19And Jared lived after he begat Enoch eight hundred years,
Enoch walked with God after he begat his first child. All the other Patriarchs simply lived after they begat their first child. Obviously, Enoch was far and away more beloved of God than his contemporaries.
So, then, there seems to be a Biblical principle that extraordinarily good people are taken to heaven body and soul, Enoch and Elijah are prime examples. Therefore, I believe that Mary is in heaven body and soul because she is an extraordinary person. I believe this is consistent with Scripture.
Now, let me ask you this, does anyone NOT believe that Mary is in heaven? I have yet to meet a Bible Christian who doesn't. Funny thing though, I can't find any explicit statements in Scripture saying that Mary is in heaven. Can you? If you can, please show me.
This is very interesting because, every Protestant, every Bible Christian that I've ever asked has said they definitely believe that Mary is in heaven. But how can that be if it doesn't say so in Scripture? Simple, because it is consistent with Scripture.
The error of discovering the doctrine in Scripture.
It is unfortunate that sometimes, Catholics also fall into this error.
The Catholic Church teaches:
113 2. Read the Scripture within "the living Tradition of the whole Church". According to a saying of the Fathers, Sacred Scripture is written principally in the Church's heart rather than in documents and records, for the Church carries in her Tradition the living memorial of God's Word, and it is the Holy Spirit who gives her the spiritual interpretation of the Scripture (". . . according to the spiritual meaning which the Spirit grants to the Church"81).
What this means is that, the Catholic Church interprets the Scriptures according to "presuppositions." It is the only Church which can legitimately do so because Christ did not write Scripture. He established Traditions and it is from these Traditions that the New Testament was written.
83 The Tradition here in question comes from the apostles and hands on what they received from Jesus' teaching and example and what they learned from the Holy Spirit. The first generation of Christians did not yet have a written New Testament, and the New Testament itself demonstrates the process of living Tradition.
Tradition is to be distinguished from the various theological, disciplinary, liturgical or devotional traditions, born in the local churches over time. These are the particular forms, adapted to different places and times, in which the great Tradition is expressed. In the light of Tradition, these traditions can be retained, modified or even abandoned under the guidance of the Church's Magisterium.
But Protestants do not have the proper presuppositions. They have those which were established by the Reformers in the 16th century. Most of them have actually rejected those as well. They don't have those established by Christ and the Apostles. Therefore, when they read the Scriptures, they impose upon them their own views and make them say things which were never intended.
So, let's talk about the Assumption
The Bible seems explicit to me concerning the assumption of Enoch. The Bible also seems explicit in explaining why Enoch was assumed into heaven:
Hebrews 11:5 ....for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
Now it seems to me that this sort of gives us a guideline or Biblical principle. Apparently, God will translate to Himself those who please Him. We know that we all await our translation to heaven body and soul, eventually, in the Resurrection. But apparently, God will translate some to Himself who please Him extraordinarily. Such as, Elijah and Moses ( 4 Kings 2:11; Jude 1:9).
Now, if He did this in the past, why would God not do it in the future. After all, God is absolute and does not change. And isn't Scripture clear that Mary pleased God:
Luke 1:28 And the angel being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women....42 And she cried out with a loud voice, and said: Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. 43 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 For behold as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. 45 And blessed art thou that hast believed, because those things shall be accomplished that were spoken to thee by the Lord.
Additional texts which support the translation of Mary to heaven body and soul are these:
Rev 11:19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven: and the ark of his testament was seen in his temple, and there were lightnings, and voices, and an earthquake, and great hail.
Rev 12:1 And a great sign appeared in heaven: A woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars:
John 17:24 Father, I will that where I am, they also whom thou hast given me may be with me; that they may see my glory which thou hast given me, because thou hast loved me before the creation of the world.
Psalms 132:8 Arise, O Lord, into thy resting place: thou and the ark, which thou hast sanctified.
I guess your next question is "what does the ark have to do with Mary?" I'll save that answer for a future article.
