Penance for sin?

Lutero:

When Jesus forgave, why did He NOT dole out any penance?
Is there a rule that He must? The Catholic Church imposes no rules on Christ.

However, the Catholic Church obeys Scripture. And Scripture says:
1 Peter 4:1

King James Version (KJV)

Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

Note how, in order to do away with sin, we must expiate it in suffering. Scripture teaches that we do so because Christ sacrificed Himself for our sins. Therefore, we must sacrifice for our own sins as well:

1 Peter 3:17-19

King James Version (KJV)

17 For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.
18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

Another form of Sacrifice is to give away our material goods, by giving alms:
Luke 11:41

King James Version (KJV)

41 But rather give alms of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you.

And this is not only for personal sin but also for the sins of other members of the Body of Christ:
Colossians 1:24

King James Version (KJV)

24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:

But if you deny it, show me from Scripture.

Sincerely,

De Maria
