We do good works because we love God and neighbor

ROBERT February 10, 2015 at 12:31 pmThis is the problem, and why as much as some of the other RCs here are trying to say otherwise, justification in the RCism depends on how much I have loved, how much I have trusted, and how much I have done. At the very least, your confessional statements are so poorly written that we end up with this works-righteousness view when the other RCs here are trying to do it.
What?
As for justification by how much we have done, Scripture is perfectly clear:
2 Corinthians 5:10
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
So RCs, what is it, are we justified because we love Christ
Yes. Those who do not love Christ will not be justified.
or do we love Christ because we are justified?
The justified already love Christ. They do not begin to love Christ because they are justified.
Are we justified because we do good works
Yes. Those who have true faith in Christ will show their faith by their works.
or do we do good works because we are justified.
Those who are justified are already doing good. That is why they are justified. As the Scripture says:
Romans 2:13King James Version (KJV)
13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
Because apparently De Maria believes we do good works in order to be justified.
On the contrary, De Maria says that we do good works because we love God and neighbor. That is the Teaching of Scripture and of the Catholic Church:
John 14:21
He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
1 John 5:2
By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
Only those who do the works of God will be justified by God. That is also the Teaching of Scripture and of the Catholic Church. See Matt 25:31-46.

  1. Oh boy...poor Robert

I think this site needs a "Hit Head Here" sign after reading that post. Looks like Robert is confusing a couple of issues here.

Wow! You sure have had your hands full De Maria in defending Our Faith!
God Bless and keep up the great work!

    1. Yeah, I know. Whatever happened to them following Scripture? I'm the only one posting Scripture. They seem to think that, because they question some Catholic Doctrine, that makes the Catholic Doctrine false. But the Truth is true whether they believe it or not. Truth does not depend on their understanding.

    2. That's the whole problem! PROTEST-ants truly feel they READ and KNOW the Bible, but when you show them verses that SCREAM the Catholic Doctrines, they claim it false, or just ignore it.
