Do you believe in the existence of the soul?

Recently, someone said:
The "soul" per Romanism is a catholic made up thing the word "soul" in Scripture means a person not some ethereal thing that's invisible inside ones spirit that has "stains" on it.

Jesus Christ said:
Matthew 10:28King James Version (KJV)28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Matthew 22:37
King James Version (KJV)37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
It would seem then, that we are composed of a material body which we can see and an immaterial soul which we can't see.  That, is according to Jesus.

Sincerely,

De Maria

  1. Hi De Maria.

    Good Defense and explanation!

If you do have time, could you please elaborate more about soul and spirit?. I am little bit confused about these words.

Fyi. My own language those words are the same things but can apply or use in difference sentence for emphasizing the object like ghost and soul if the living.

Here my problem is the immortal body = soul =spirit???

And do human being possess 3 element ( body , soul and spirit )???.

They aren't in a hurry , just reply whenever you are free.

    Thanks in advance De Maria.

    Sincerely. Anna

      I don't know.

      No.

Ok, here is what the Catechism says.

Meantime, here is what I understand.

      The Body is material.
      The Spirit is immaterial.
The Soul is the union of Spirit and Body.
So, human beings are made up of Spirit and Body.

Because human beings are made of Spirit and Body, they are also called "souls".

This question you asked is very complicated.
Here my problem is the immortal body = soul =spirit???

The immortal body will be spiritualized.
      1 Corinthians 15:44
It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

Because the flesh will not enter heaven:
1 Cor 15:50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

So, the body must be changed to spirit before it will enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

Sooo, back to your question. At the Resurrection, the natural body will be reunited with the spirit. At that point, the body and spirit are again a soul. This soul will be transformed into the spiritualized body which is the immortal body which will remain forever in heaven.

      I think.

Here is another explanation from Catholic Answers.

      I hope that helps.

      Thanks in advance De Maria.

You're welcome. I hope I didn't make things more confusing.

      Sincerely. Anna
