Must one keep the law perfectly to be saved?

Scripture says:

James 2:10

King James Version (KJV)
¹⁰For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

Does that mean that one must keep the Law perfectly? Or does God forgive sin?

1 John 1:9

King James Version (KJV)
⁹If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Therefore, God forgives sins.
