Exodus 20:4 DM-I see. You're hung up with the word, "pray". The Catholic Church is ancient. It is the Church Jesus Christ established and it understands the word, pray, the way Scripture uses it. Now, let me show you: Genesis 12:13 Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee. Is Abram here, worshipping his sister, Sarai? Or is he asking her for a favor? In the same way, when we pray to the Saints, we don't worship them. We merely ask our fellow citizens in the City of God, to interecede on our behalf. JB-Hide yor Mary statues and stp kneeling before them. In fact stop praying to Mary and pray to Jesus who hears your prayers and can actually do something for you. DM-That just shows your lack of faith. See, Jesus said: John 11:26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? Thus, Mary and all the Saints are still alive in Christ. And therefore, they will intercede when we ask them to do so (pray). JB-Do Catholics check with their Catholic neighbors to see what sort of works they are doing to get to heaven and if they've done enough each week? Do they keep a list to show the Lord how they earned salvation? DM-No. We hope in Christ. 1 Thessalonians 1:3 Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father; Why do you ask? Do you check with your Protestant neighbors to judge if you have enough faith to be saved?  BL- The catholic church goes to the scriptures for most of their doctrines , goes beyond scripture to find the other doctrines . They wrote the CCC so you would know what the church believes as after all you are not allowed to question the church. The CCC has errors within it's pages but you are not allowed to question those errors. DM-Bob, Jesus Christ did not say that all doctrines are to be found in Scripture. In fact, even you keep doctrines that can't be found in Scripture. In fact, Jesus Christ did not command that any Scripture be written. The Catholic Church wrote the New Testament in order to supplement Her Teaching of Jesus Christ's commands. There are no errors in Catholic Teaching because Christ Teaches through His Church. And no, no one is allowed to question the Church. Listen to Scripture: 2 Thessalonians 3:6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. And again: Galatians 1:8 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. BL-When I look for God I find Jesus Christ ,not an organization with claims. DM-Everyone will find Christ in the end, but how will He respond to you? Matt 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. We obey Christ and follow Him through His Church, which He established to lead us to salvation. BL-The church is the body of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ ,not a small group making decisions worldwide. Eph 2:20-22 sums up the church I know. DM-Do you mean that you discard all the other Scriptures about the Church. Let's see, you deny that the Church is an organization. What does Scripture say: 1 Corinthians 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. The Catholic Church fits all the verses of Scripture. But you pick some and deny others. Who put you above Scripture? BL- My comments are made for you to question a group that claims authority when it does not have it , has doctrines and traditions that do not line up with scripture and to get you to look at what you believe and prove to yourself that what you have been taught is correct. DM-Well, Bob. Let's line up your teachings and the Catholic Church's with Scripture and see which one's line up the best. It is the Catholic Church which wrote the New Testament and selected the Old Testament books which should be included in the Bible you carry today. You are still stuck. Without an infallible-official interpreattion of the Scriprue from your church you are no better off than a Protestant. All you do is express your opinion what you think a given passage of Scripture means. That is the best you and other RC's can do.

Not really.

1. We have the same rules and guides which we follow, therefore, Nick and I and all Catholics should come up with the same interpretation.

But Protestants have no rule for how to read and understand the Bible. Therefore, they come up with things that are totally divergent.

2. Even if Nick and I come up with different interpretations, the Catholic Church does not micro-manage our exegesis. The most important rule is that our interpretations must not go against Catholic Teaching.

So, for example, in reading Matt 16:18, I could say, "Peter is the Rock". Nick might say, "Jesus is the Rock." And still another Catholic might say, "Peter's confession is the Rock." And guess what, the Catholic Church accepts all of them.

But Protestants are in turmoil about that little detail.

3. And finally, both Nick and I know that the Church is infallible and fold our cards if anyone can prove that our interpretation is against Catholic Teaching. Here is what I say about the teachings on my own blog, and I quote:

My intent on this blog is to explain Scripture according to Catholic Teaching. If my explanations are ever proven not to be in conformity with Catholic Teaching, I will immediately repent of my error and change my explanation to be in conformity with Catholic Teaching.

Name one Protestant that will do that. Will you? Of course not. Your rule is your understanding. You rely upon your own understanding and deny the God given right of the Catholic Church to teach you the Wisdom of God.

You don’t get it, Robert. The Catholic Church is infallible. Get a clue from those who have reunited with the Church. They have all admitted their errors and repented of their sins. Then they were admitted back in the fold.

The Catholic Church is infallible, Robert. Reunion with the Catholic Church is impossible, as long as you cling to your heresies.

That’s good. But we follow Scripture. And Scripture says that the Church is infallible:

10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,

Is the wisdom of God infallible? Then the Church must be infallible if She teaches the wisdom of God even in the heavens.
