The Catholic Church's doctrine is that "matrimony" is the office of motherhood

ETPH:
And not once do we see, "don't have pleasure with your wife". And not once with the command of the children is there a command on how many to have, if any.....it's just IF they have children, siding on the fact that most married people do.
LG:
ssssh...don't mention that inconvenient fact ! You will wake up their sleeping minds........

Are you implying that the Catholic Church limits the number of children a couple may have?

You are really out of touch. The Catholic Church's doctrine is that "matrimony" is the office of motherhood and a couple may have as many children as God gives them.

Sincerely,

De Maria

Don't say you love me

Don't say you love me, show me that you do, don't ask me to trust you, prove to me that you can be trusted author unknown

Its no coincidence that God compares our relationship to Him as matrimony.  If we love someone, we show them by the way we behave towards them.  Saying that you love someone is important.  But it is more important to show them that you love them.

Scripture says:

But some one will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I by my works will show you my faith. (St. James 2:18)
Our Lord Himself said:
If you love me, you will keep my commandments.  (St. John 14:15)
Does anyone deny that God is literally saying to us, "Don't say it if you don't mean it!"

Just a thought about divorce and remarriage in the Catholic Church

On the Sacred Page, they are discussing the Synod of the Family and Catholic marriage.  That led me to this thought.

I wonder what the divorce statistics are for Catholics who have had their first marriage annulled?

I'm wondering because, the annulment process seems to be a very educational process. I've had several friends who went through the annulment process and it has been my experience that they learn a great deal about their faith going through that process.

I looked it up on the internet but could find no statistics regarding the divorce rate amongst Catholics who had married again after their first marriage was annulled. If this rate is very low because of the educational opportunity which the annulment process forces people to undergo, then it might be a Godsend if somehow, divorced people are pardoned but required to go through a similar process in order to remarry or if already remarried, in order to be restored to participation in the Sacraments.

Polygamy?

File:McVey wide skyscraper.jpg

There's a fellow I'm talking to on an anti-Christian board who seems to believe that God intended  for man to be polygamous?

What he doesn't understand is that God revealed His marriage in the beginning and also revealed that man disobeyed and fell from grace. What followed afterward was a record of man's continued disobedience toward's God.

The fact that God did not intend for man to be polygamous, is implied strongly by the fact that the first polygamous relationship was that of the evil and murderous son of Cain:
Genesis 4:
17 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch. 18 And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech. 19 And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah....23 And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.

Therefore, if this murderous fellow is the father of polygamy, then what God is revealing is that polygamy is the evil fruit of an evil man.

Next, we have the Sons of God falling to polygamy:
Genesis 6:
6 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,

2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

3 And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.....

And then God sent the Flood to wipe out all the sinful men from the earth. That includes all the polygamous men from the earth.

Therefore God's plan for mankind was certainly not polygamy.

Sincerely,

De Maria

If the wife is unwilling, let the maid come?

File:McVey wide skyscraper.jpg

No one denies that Martin Luther made that statement.  Yet, Protestants defend i,  Here's an example:
Biographer Ewald Plass notes of this quote, “The words, ‘If the wife is not willing, bring on the maid’ have been notoriously misconstrued by having been quoted out of context. As the following words clearly show, Luther is thinking of a separation and a remarriage, not a sort of concubinage.” [Ewald Plass, What Luther Says II:901, footnote 20]. This is substantiated by a similar statement from Luther in the same year in the treatise, ‘The Estate of Marriage’.
(as reported on the Beggars all blog).

Out of context?  Really?  In what possible context could these words be acceptable?  Have they not read the words of Jesus Christ?
