Certainly God does the saving. But He only saves those who do good works. Its very simple. You said it yourself.

Repenting is a good work. Following Christ is a good work. Notice what Christ said to the Rich Young Man. In order to be saved, you must keep all the Commandments, and then sell all you have and then come and follow Me. Matt 19:21. Nothing about Christ's righteousness being imputed to anyone by faith alone.
