For the promise is unto you, and to your children

You are right, He did say that, but He also said that those to be baptized must believe as well:

"He believes and is baptized will be saved, he who does not believe is condemned already." (Mark 16:16)

You read the Scriptures in isolation of other Scriptures which speak on the same matter. Acts 2 says:

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.


39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.


40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

Now, we notice that when parents brought their children to Jesus for healing, Jesus said:

Matthew 15:28

28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

Now, its just as easy for Christ to heal one of sins as it is for Him to heal one of illness:

Matthew 9:5
King James Version (KJV)
5 For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk?

Therefore Scripture shows that Christ will accept the faith of the parent in lieu of the faith of the child.

But if you want to believe that God will send an innocent child to hell, go right ahead. We believe that God is merciful and loving.
