Climbing the stairway to heaven

Olda May 23, 2013 at 8:18 pmDe Maria,I wouldn’t expect anything less from a wholly semi-Pelagian adherent.Enjoy your ladder-climbing.G’nite.
Semi pelagianism was condemned by the Catholic Church as a heresy. As for ladder climbing, yes, I am doing my best to climb the stairway to heaven by doing all which God wills:
John 14:21
King James Version (KJV)
21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
Sincerely,
De Maria

  1. Ephesians 2:1 says we are dead in our sin and transgression. When Paul said we are dead, he meant we are dead! We cannot climb any stairway to heaven. It is not by my strenght or power I get to heaven, but God who saves me.

    1. Hi, thanks for replying.

Ephesians 2:1 says we are dead in our sin and transgression. When Paul said we are dead, he meant we are dead!

It says, "were dead", past tense. Let me show you.

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.

We cannot climb any stairway to heaven.

      You're denying Scripture.

Matt 19:26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

It is not by my strenght or power I get to heaven, but God who saves me.

True. That is why God gave us the Sacraments. Wherein He saves those who are righteous and just.

Romans 2:13 For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.

Titus 3:5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,

Isaiah 64:6 says even our best works are filthy rags before God. We cannot get salvation by good works my friend.

    1. Hi, thanks for your reply,

      You said,

"yes, I am doing my best to climb the stairway to heaven by doing all which God"

Isaiah 64:6 says even our best works are filthy rags before God. We cannot get salvation by good works my friend.

In that verse, Isaiah is speaking about the works of unrepentant sinners. Let me show you:

5 You come to the help of those who gladly do right,
      who remember your ways.
But when we continued to sin against them,
      you were angry.
How then can we be saved?
6 All of us have become like one who is unclean,
      and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;
we all shrivel up like a leaf,
and like the wind our sins sweep us away.

Notice that in this verse, Isaiah mentions that those who are wicked persecute those who do right. It is these people, who persist in wickedness, whose works God considers filthy rags. Not the works of the righteous. Lets look at the New Testament for proof.

Heb 6:10 God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.

Notice how God will always remember the good you have done to help His people. Thus, God does not consider our works to be filthy rags. Just remember, good works, merit reward from God:

      Matthew 6:6
      Giving to the Needy
“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

But our sins are filthy rags. Sinners will be punished.

      Galatians 6:6-8
      New International Version
6 Nevertheless, the one who receives instruction in the word should share all good things with their instructor.

7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.
