If you don't keep the Commandments, how do you claim to know that you have eternal life?

PG:Not replacing, but rather agreeing with God's judgment.
Eph 5:17 Wherefore be ye not unwisebut understanding what the will of the Lord is.
1John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
Then, what happened to keeping the Commandments? Did you leave that out on purpose?

1 John 5:1-7
King James Version (KJV)
Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.
7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

Do you keep the Commandments? If you don't, how do you claim to know that you have eternal life?

That's in regards to our daily walk, not in regards to eternal destiny.
If you don't walk with Christ daily, how do you think you will be with Him eternally?
Luke 9:23
King James Version (KJV)
23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

Matthew 10:38
King James Version (KJV)
38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

Sincerely,

De Maria

And we must keep the Ten Commandments

TG:
AND, and, the Law was given to show us just how far short will fall of God's Perfection and to lead us to the Saviour. The Law shows us we cannot save ourselves or even have a part in that salvation except to believe the Messiah and accept HIS PROVISION which was HIS death on the cross for our sin and HIS rising from the dead for our justification. GOD never ever intended man to save himself, because GOD knows we can't.
And we must keep the Ten Commandments in order to be saved by God:
1 John 2:2-4

King James Version (KJV)

And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

Sincerely,

De Maria

God expects you to keep His Commandments.

HW:
James 2:10
"For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it."
That is absolutely true. But that doesn't mean we can't keep it. It means we must keep all of it.

De Maria, I'll say it again. Those who are followers of God will want to be obedient to Him. Jesus did reiterate the 10 commandments in the New Testament. He did indeed make new commandments such as loving one another. However, we cannot possibly keep the law perfectly. As scripture says, if you break one you are breaking them all. Which is why Katie Scarlett said that if you follow one you have to follow all perfectly. You cannot follow one perfectly, if that is even possible, and not the other because you are breaking all the law.

Then why does Scripture say:
Luke 1:6

King James Version (KJV)

And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

God knows we cannot keep the commandments.

That is your teaching. Not God's:

1 John 5:3

King James Version (KJV)

For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

There is no way. We are fallen human beings who sin every single day. Scripture also tells us that through the law came the knowledge of sin. God was preparing us, showing us that even if we follow these commandments, there is no way we will be saved because we cannot possibly keep them...which is why we need a savior. If you want to be saved by God you need Jesus Christ. Plain and simple.

Absolutely! If you want to keep the Commandments and be saved, you need Jesus. No one can keep the Commandment without the grace of God.

This does not mean that we can start killing each other, cheating on our spouses, deceiving others, stealing, etc. God still told us not to do it, but we don't do it because we are already saved and want to be obedient to Him.

Claiming to be saved is not the same as being saved. It is not your call, but God's:
1 Corinthians 4:3-4

King James Version (KJV)

But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self.
For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.

Those who do not follow His commandment aren't obedient. How can you be obedient and a follower of Christ when Jesus says love one another and you do the opposite? Even if we want to be obedient to Him, we are still going to fail at it. This is why God says there is no salvation through the law. He knows we can't keep it. Thank God he gave us the opportunity to be His children through the blood of Jesus Christ, so that when we do stumble, we will be forgiven when we seek for his forgiveness.

You continue to follow the commandments of men and not of God.

God expects you to keep His Commandments. That is why He gave us His Son in order that by His grace we would be enabled to keep His Commandments.

Nothing is difficult for God. And with God all things are possible. Therefore, if you love God and are united to Him, do not be afraid of His Commandments. His Commandments are good and true:
Romans 7:12

King James Version (KJV)

12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.

The Commandments are there to lead us to Christ. And they are not grievous.
1 John 5:3

King James Version (KJV)

For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

Sincerely,

De Maria

By faith in Christ obey His Word:

FH:
Of course it does. Scripture says we are not under the law, but under grace....the 10 commandments are the law....HELLO!!!
That doesn't mean the Ten Commandments are abolished.

When we are under grace, we are not under the law because we fulfill the law:
Romans 13:10

King James Version (KJV)

10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

Galatians 5:14

King James Version (KJV)

14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Leviticus 19:18

King James Version (KJV)

18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the Lord.

Jesus didn't abolish anything, He kept them.

As do we, who by faith in Christ obey His Word:
John 14:23

King James Version (KJV)

23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

Jesus is the foundation of our faith.

And He commands us to keep the Commandments:
John 14:21

King James Version (KJV)

21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

Matthew 16:26

King James Version (KJV)

26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

De Maria

The Bible says unbelievers and atheists do not do anything good

TM:this is still double speak.
Yes it is God who saves but your statement is contradictory because unless one keeps the commandments God will not save him is what you claim.
God saves those who keep the Commandments. That is what Scripture says.

To be saved in other words one must keep all the commandments of the law.
One must keep the Ten Commandments.

The Bible says no one does good.
The Bible says unbelievers and atheists do not do anything good.

Read Romans chapter 3.
Let's go through it together.

De Maria

Salvation rests in God

HW:How I feel sorry for you if you think salvation rests in following the commandments.

Salvation rests in God. God only saves those who keep the Commandments.

Revelation 22:14

King James Version (KJV)

14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

If that were true then Jesus' death is useless.

I don't know why that should be so? Jesus Himself comanded it:

John 14:21

King James Version (KJV)

21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

And the Apostles taught it:
1 John 2:2-4

King James Version (KJV)

And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

Who needs a savior when all you need is to keep the commandments?!

Do you think it simple to keep the Commandments? Try doing it without the grace which Jesus gave us through His sacrifice on Calvary.

It is precisely because of the fact that the Commandments are so hard to keep by our own efforts that the Protestants abandoned them.

But we are taught that when we keep the Commandments it is not we who work but God who works through us and to bring His plan into fruition:
Philippians 2:11-13

King James Version (KJV)

11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

Who can keep the commandments perfectly other than Jesus Christ?

He who has faith in God.

Matthew 19:26

King James Version (KJV)

26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

Scripture tells us if you keep them all and break one you are breaking all of the commandments.

That is true.

All these laws, these commandments, are to show how broken we are. We can't be saved by keeping the commandments because no one other than God is perfect enough to keep them.

That is not from Scripture. You are merely reading into Scripture your tradition of men.

Luke 1:6

King James Version (KJV)

And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

Your problem is you think that we believe that once we become Christian we can do anything we want and we will be okay.

Not true. I've known many Protestants who actually understand they have to amend their ways. But I've known some who don't.

That is a big misconception many Catholics have.

The misconception you have is that you believe all Protestants understand that doctrine the same way.

The commandments do not save.

Who said they did? The Protestant misconception on this is that Catholic's teach that the Commandments save anyone. That is not true.

Only Jesus Christ saves.

Here's the difference between Protestant and Catholic.

We believe Jesus saves those who obey Him:
Hebrews 5:9

King James Version (KJV)

And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

We believe Jesus saves those who love and provide for their fellow man:
Matthew 25:31-46

King James Version (KJV)

31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:....
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.....
45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Revelation 22:12-15

King James Version (KJV)

12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

Whereas you believe those who merely proclaim faith in Christ will be saved:
Matthew 7:21

King James Version (KJV)

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Matthew 10:38

King James Version (KJV)

38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

However, when we follow Jesus Christ, we will want to be obedient to Him.

That is the essence of the Catholic Teaching.

The problem is we are still imperfect human beings who will continue to fall. The good news is that we have this awesome God who forgives us and lifts us back up, and get this...actually forgets our sin, when we humbly come to Him and ask Him to forgive us.

Yeah. In the Sacraments.

I sincerely hope, for your soul, that one day His Word will penetrate your heart.

I hope the same for you.

"For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse
, as it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.” Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God, because “the righteous will live by faith.” The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, it says, “The person who does these things will live by them.” Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.” He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit."

Have you not read in Scripture what it says about Abraham?

Genesis 26:5

King James Version (KJV)

Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

Abraham's faith was not dead. He was of a strong faith which led him to obey God from the moment he heard Him:
Hebrews 11:8
By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

“Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”

The Law does not justify us. But God does not justify those who do not keep the Law.
Romans 2

King James Version (KJV)

Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.
But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.
And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:
11 For there is no respect of persons with God.
12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;
13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

De Maria

I said, to be saved BY GOD, you must keep the law

FH:Of course you did.....

No, I didn't.

you said to be saved, you must keep the law.

I said, to be saved BY GOD, you must keep the law. And I proved it from Scripture:

Romans 2:13

King James Version (KJV)

13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

Revelation 22:14

King James Version (KJV)

14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Matthew 19:17

King James Version (KJV)

17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

Scripture is very clear, those who do not keep the Commandments will not be saved by God:
1 John 2:4

King James Version (KJV)

He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

Now its your turn. Since you don't believe that only those who keep the Commandments are saved by God, show me where Scripture says that those who do not keep the Commandments are saved by God.

Scripture teaches otherwise....that is not the Gospel.

Show me.

But you sure contradict Scripture.

We'll see. Let's get into the details. Show me where one can reject the Commandments and be saved.

Nope.....justificiation is by grace through faith....

By a working faith, not by faith alone:
James 2:24

King James Version (KJV)

24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

if you understood the context you would not quote this verse in support of works based salvation, as Paul goes on to say in Romans 3 that the law justified no one in His sight.

But only those who keep the Law are justified by God.

If you understood Scripture you would see that this is the same lesson taught by Jesus in the Parable of the Pharisee who exalted himself.

Then no one will be saved, because no one save Christ can keep them.

That is what you say. Because you don't understand the Word of God. Scripture says that some have kept the Commandments and nowhere says that no one can keep the Commandments.

Luke 1:6

King James Version (KJV)

And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

If it is true what you say, then show me where Scripture contradicts itself.

Those who are saved, are saved by grace through faith, not by keeping the commandments.

Those who are saved by grace through faith, have kept the Commandments. If they didn't keep the Commandments, they did not cooperate with the grace of faith given them by God.

Go in peace. YOUR FAITH has saved you....luke 7:50

Really? Apparently you ignored all the rest of that chapter.

First, I'd like to note that you seem to be saying that faith saves. So where is God in that equation? If your faith saves you, then you don't need God.

Now, let's look at the rest of that account:

36 And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat.
37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,
38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.
40 And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.
41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.
42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?
43 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.
44 And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.
45 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.
46 My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment.
47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.
48 And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.
49 And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?
50 And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

1. The woman washed Jesus feet.
2. Mourned His coming death.
3. Kissed Him.
4. Anointed Him with costly oil.
5. Which means that she made a great monetary sacrifice (John 12:4-6).

In all this the woman clearly expressed not just her faith in works of love for Jesus. And what does Scripture say about that?
1 Corinthians 13:2

King James Version (KJV)

And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

The rest of your post isn't worth addressing since you have already shown how you twist Scripture to your own destruction.
Your post wasn't worth addressing. But I addressed it anyway on the hope that someone out there may be enlightened by these corrections to your errors.

Sincerely,

De Maria
