Why do so many Democrats claim to be Catholic?

The Catholic Church emphatically teaches that abortion is a mortal sin worthy of automatic excommunication.  The Democrat party stands for abortion on demand and heinously supports even partial birth abortion where a child is murdered after he is born.  And yet, many Catholics still vote Democrat.

The Catholic Church teaches that marriage is between a man and a woman.  The Democrat party supports same sex marriage.  And still, many Catholics vote Democrat.

The Catholic Church is for the dignity of life from conception to natural death.  In six states, the Democrat party has legalized physician assisted suicide.  But many Catholics still support the Democrat party.

How can any Catholic vote Democrat?  #walkaway

Battling against Obama's HHS

March 16, 2016

As you well know, it is not just Catholic Sisters who are battling against Obama's HHS mandate in the Supreme Court. It's priests, brothers, and lay people, too! It's men and women, employers and students, Catholics and Evangelicals, in a wide array of Americans standing up for a basic Constitutional and human right -- religious freedom!

There are some 37 different plaintiffs combined into the seven cases that the Supreme Court has combined and is hearing in oral argument this Wednesday, March 23.

One of those seven cases is Priests for Life vs. HHS, and of all the plaintiffs in the Supreme Court right now, we were the first to challenge the mandate with a lawsuit.

Among the various groups that have sent in "Friend of the Court" briefs, moreover, are numerous Catholic, Protestant, Evangelical and Jewish groups, as well as the Church of the Lukumi Babalu Aye, the International Society For Krishna Consciousness, the Islamic Center Of Murfreesboro, and the Lipan Apache Tribe.
All of this diversity reflects the fact that religious freedom is a human issue -- not merely a Catholic issue or a woman's issue. Nobody has a monopoly on religious freedom, and that is precisely the argument we are making before the Court.

I wanted to share with you  my two articles below that were recently published in key publications; you can also find more at http://www.priestsforlife.org/library/5621-op-eds-regarding-the-hhs-mandate. Please read, share, and comment upon these pieces.

And please be sure to spread the word about our prayer campaign for success in this Supreme Court case. See www.SupremeCourtVictory.com.

The oral arguments in the Supreme Court take place this Wednesday, March 23. I will be in the court, and will be sending out commentary as soon as we are finished. Plaintiffs Janet Morana and Alveda King of Priests for Life will be speaking at a rally outside the Court.

And the night before, that is, Tuesday night March 22, we will hold a national prayer rally in front of the Court from 7:30 to 8:30pm. Please promote it (see https://www.facebook.com/events/987383398016534/), and please come if you are able!

Blessings, and onward to victory!

The Upcoming Court Battle Over the HHS Mandate (By Fr. Frank Pavone, Crisis Magazine, March 14, 2016)
In what way can simply signing a document be a burden on you or your freedom? Obviously, the answer to that question depends on the document that you’re asked to sign.  If you’re a celebrity and a fan hands you a scrap of paper for an autograph, your burden consists of a few seconds of your time—and in fact, it’s probably a joy for you... More

Are Some Priests More Catholic Than Others? The Government Seems to Think So (By Fr. Frank Pavone, National Catholic Register, March 3, 2016)

My classmates and I at St. Joseph’s Seminary in the Archdiocese of New York took the same classes – Sacred Scripture, Sacraments, homiletics and many others – and we were ordained together in November 1988 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral by Cardinal John J. O’Connor. We all looked forward to our first parish assignments as brand new priests...MORE

Override President Obama’s veto and defund Planned Parenthood!

Call your member of Congress now to override President Obama’s
veto and defund Planned Parenthood!

February 1, 2016

Thanks to the efforts of pro-lifers such as yourself, the House of Representatives and Senate both passed H.R. 3762, the bill that would deny Planned Parenthood most of its federal funding and repeal key parts of Obamacare.
Barack Obama, as expected from the most pro-abortion President in history, vetoed the measure.
But now we have another chance to have H.R. 3762 enacted into law!  The House of Representatives has scheduled a vote on Tuesday, February 2, to override the President’s veto.
You know from past Action Alerts that H.R. 3762 would redirect about $400 million in taxpayer money from Planned Parenthood to community health centers that do not deal in abortion.  It would also repeal major sections of Obamacare, the President’s health care system that has been both a boon to Planned Parenthood and an attack on religious liberty.
I won’t pretend that overriding the President’s veto will be easy.  Two-thirds of Congress must approve the veto override for it to be successful.  But the more votes cast in favor of defunding Planned Parenthood this year, the more pressure that there will be on next President and the next Congress to stop our forced financing of the nation’s biggest abortion business.
Please call your Congressional Representative to let him or her know that you want President Obama’s veto overridden and H.R. 3762 enacted into law.
We have never before come this close to defunding Planned Parenthood.  Please call now!
Sincerely,
Fr. Frank Pavone
National Director, Priests for Life

Below is our media schedule for the week but first see the press release I sent out today about our Supreme Court Case.

Fr. Frank Pavone
National Director, Priests for Life

Supreme Court to Argue Priests for Life Case March 23
Prayer Rally set in Front of Court
Priests for Life will be in the US Supreme Court for oral arguments on Wednesday, March 23 in the case of Priests for Life vs. HHS. On that day, Priests for Life will hold a prayer rally in front of the steps of the Supreme Court, and invites all who are in favor of life and religious freedom to join them.
There will be prayers, speeches, and educational talks regarding what is happening in this case, and various church leaders, politicians, Presidential candidates, and pro-life leaders are being invited to take part in the rally.
Leading up to the oral arguments, and then leading up to the decision which is expected in June, Priests for Life invites all to take part in the prayer campaign against the HHS mandate, found at www.PrayerCampaign.org.
Six other similar cases have been consolidated by the high court with the Priests for Life case. Among the unique elements of the Priests for Life case is the fact that the entire mission and purpose of the organization is to end abortion, while the HHS mandate tries to force the plaintiffs into helping the government expand abortion. Moreover, in the Priests for Life case, there are three personal plaintiffs in addition to the organization itself: Fr. Frank Pavone, Janet Morana, and the niece of Martin Luther King Jr., Dr. Alveda King, who serves fulltime as Director of African-American Outreach for Priests for Life.

News about the Walk for Life

January 25, 2016

The past few days have been such an exciting time in the pro-life movement! In spite of the weather on the East Coast, the March for Life was a great success. Those that were able to attend were a powerful witness to life as were all of the events surrounding the March. After the March in DC, I flew out West to the Walk for Life in San Francisco for more great events commemorating the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade. Please keep an eye out at PriestsForLife.org where we have some photos posted and will continue to post photos and video throughout the week.

Recently, I had the following op-eds published for the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade. I invite you to read and comment on them and also share them on your own social media accounts, email lists etc. This is a simple action you can take to help spread the pro-life message and counter any anti-life comments that others may have submitted. Below the op-eds I have provided links to some good news articles about the March.

Finally, please see our media schedule for the week here.

Two different crowds, one dream (WashingtonTimes.com, January 21, 2016)

Those of us who were part of the diverse and large congregation that filled the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta on the Martin Luther King holiday Monday for the King Center’s 48th annual Commemorative Service were not weary at the end of a service that lasted more than four and a half hours. On the contrary, we were energized, as I have been after each of these services that I’ve attended for over a decade…MORE

The March for Life and the 2016 election (FoxNews.com, January 21, 2016)

This week, hundreds of thousands of Americans will participate in the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. as well as in other marches on the West Coast and in cities, town and villages everywhere in between. This flood of concerned citizens represents a deeply unsettled issue in our country: the lives of children in their first nine months are not protected by law…MORE

Uncanny Convergence: MLK Jr., the March for Life and Christian Unity (Aleteia.org, January 22, 2016)

Each January, three observances converge that reinforce each other and summon the Christian world to work together against injustice. January 15 is the birthday of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and on or around that day we observe a national holiday in his honor. A week later, on January 22, we recall the tragic decision made that day in 1973 by the Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade, unleashing a policy of abortion on demand. On or around January 22, large rallies and marches for life are held from coast to coast. And from January 18 to 25 each year, the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is observed….MORE

The March for Life and Jane Roe (PewSitter.com, January 22, 2016)

The reason the national March for Life in Washington DC is on January 22, this Friday, is because that is the date of the Roe vs. Wade and Doe vs. Bolton Supreme Court decisions in 1973 permitting abortion throughout pregnancy.   Much will be said and debated about these decisions, their legal ramifications, how the Court has weakened them over the years, and what the prospects are for the future…MORE

Pro-Woman is Pro-Life, and Pro-Life is Pro-Woman (National Catholic Register, January 22, 2016)

Almost a year ago, I had the honor of meeting a young woman named Andrea. Months earlier, on learning she was pregnant, she had taken the first drug in the RU-486 abortion regimen, and immediately regretted her decision. Racing against the clock, she found a doctor about an hour away from her home in New Jersey who would immediately begin a reversal protocol that stops the starvation of the baby. Her son Gabriel was born healthy on Dec. 31, 2014…MORE

The March for Life and Youth (Breitbart.com, January 21, 2016)

One of the most frequently heard observations about the annual March for Life, to take place again this Friday in Washington, D.C., is that it consists mostly of young people. And this gives hope to those who are part of this movement.  But the cause for that hope is deeper than it first seems. The involvement of so many young people is encouraging not just because they are the future and will carry forth the cause into the culture, into their families, into the voting booth, and into the legislatures and courts…MORE

Planned Parenthood Tries To Abort The First Amendment (The Daily Caller, January 19, 2016)

Last year a federal judge in Idaho ruled that a so-called “ag-gag law” – which prohibited undercover recordings from being filmed inside agricultural and food-processing plants – is unconstitutional. That good news for cows, chickens and pigs could spell bad news for Planned Parenthood...MORE

Below are news clippings.  Please comment on and share these as well.

Priests for Life Schedule

Priests for Life in the Media
January 18 - January 25

Below is our media schedule for the week but first let me give you some important updates.
Today I am with Dr. Alveda King and the King family in Atlanta to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

I wrote an op-ed about Martin Luther King published today on Breitbart.com called “The Call to End Abortion Is a Call to Love.”   I invite you to read and comment on it.  By doing so you can help to spread the pro-life message and counter any anti-life comments that others may have submitted.

I often write op-eds for various media outlets that are posted online.  A list can be found at our Priests for Life online library and I invite you to comment on these as well. If you are looking for more ways to be active in the pro-life movement, this is a simple action you can take.  It would also be important to share the links to them on your own social media accounts, email lists etc.

The Priests for Life team will be involved in many pro-life events this week in both Washington, DC and San Francisco.  I hope you can join us on either the East or the West Coast!  See a complete list of events at PriestsForLife.org/MarchforLife.
Finally, many friend-of-the-court briefs have been filed recently in support of the Priests for Life Supreme Court lawsuit against the Obama administration’s HHS mandate.  You can find them here.
Blessings,

Fr. Frank Pavone

Pro-Life message

January 17, 2016

I want to share a special video message with you as we prepare to march this week in cities from coast to coast.  Go to https://youtu.be/6ECPaC5UMEk to view it.  I hope it will be an encouragement to all pro-lifers whether they are new to the movement or have been in the movement for many years.  Please share this video with your lists and on your social media accounts.
I would also encourage you to watch the Democratic Presidential Primary Debate tonight, January 17 and encourage others to as well. It’s important to watch these to hear what the candidates are actually saying so we are better equipped to inform others about how extreme their positions are.  The debate will air on NBC at 9pm ET.
I would be interested to know what you think of the candidates after the debate.  You can send me a message on the form at the top of PoliticalResponsibility.com.  On that form you can also let me know what kind of elections activities you are involved in or how we may help you become more involved.
Blessings,

Priests for Life in the Media

December 21 - December 28, 2015
Join us on the morning of January 22 in Washington, DC - before the March for Life - for the National Prayer Service at Constitution Hall!  Tony Melendez will be our musical guest and we will honor Governor Sam Brownback.  See NationalPrayerService.com for more information.
“As Governor of Kansas I have signed 15 Right to Life bills reaffirming our commitment that life at all stages is sacred and valuable. I appreciate the efforts of the National Pro-life Religious Council, Priests for Life and their allied organizations in recognizing the people of Kansas and their elected officials at the National Prayer Service. Kansas has enacted legislation protecting unborn children from dismemberment abortions, and I encourage other states to do the same. I ask you, therefore, to join me at this prayer service, so that the action we have taken in Kansas can be an encouragement to similar efforts throughout this great land." - Senator Sam Brownback
