Isaac sojourneth in Gerara, where God reneweth to him the promise made to Abraham. King Abimelech maketh league with him.
[1] And when a famine came in the land, after that barrenness which had happened in the days of Abraham, Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Palestines to Gerara. [2] And the Lord appeared to him and said: Go not down into Egypt, but stay in the land that I shall tell thee. [3] And sojourn in it, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee: for to thee and to thy seed I will give all these countries, to fulfill the oath which I swore to Abraham thy father. [4] And I will multiply thy seed like the stars of heaven: and I will give to thy posterity all these countries: and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed. [5] Because Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my precepts and commandments, and observed my ceremonies and laws.
[6] So Isaac abode in Gerara. [7] And when he was asked by the men of that place, concerning his wife, he answered: She is my sister; for he was afraid to confess that she was his wife, thinking lest perhaps they would kill him because of her beauty. [8] And when very many days were passed, and he abode there, Abimelech king of the Palestines looking out through a window, saw him playing with Rebecca his wife. [9] And calling for him, he said: It is evident she is thy wife: why didst thou feign her to be thy sister? He answered: I feared lest I should die for her sake. [10] And Abimelech said: Why hast thou deceived us? Some man of the people might have lain with thy wife, and thou hadst brought upon us a great sin. And he commanded all the people, saying:
[11] He that shall touch this man' s wife, shall surely be put to death. [12] And Isaac sowed in that land, and he found that same year a hundredfold: and the Lord blessed him. [13] And the man was enriched, and he went on prospering and increasing, till he became exceeding great: [14] And he had possessions of sheep and of herds, and a very great family. Wherefore the Palestines envying him, [15] Stopped up at that time all the wells, that the servants of his father Abraham had digged, filling them up with earth:
[16] Insomuch that Abimelech himself said to Isaac: Depart from us, for thou art become much mightier than we. [17] So he departed and came to the torrent of Gerara, to dwell there: [18] And he digged again other wells, which the servants of his father Abraham had digged, and which, after his death, the Palestines had of old stopped up: and he called them by the same names by which his father before had called them. [19] And they digged in the torrent, and found living water. [20] But there also the herdsmen of Gerara strove against the herdsmen of Isaac, saying: It is our water. Wherefore he called the name of the well, on occasion of that which had happened, Calumny.
[21] And they digged also another; and for that they quarrelled likewise, and he called the name of it, Enmity. [22] Going forward from thence, he digged another well, for which they contended not: therefore he called the name thereof, Latitude, saying: Now hath the Lord given us room, and made us to increase upon the earth. [23] And he went up from that place to Bersabee, [24] Where the Lord appeared to him that same night, saying: I am the God of Abraham thy father; do not fear, for I am with thee: I will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham' s sake. [25] And he built there an altar: and called upon the name of the Lord, and pitched his tent: and commanded his servants to dig a well.
[26] To which place when Abimelech, and Ochozath his friend, and Phicol chief captain of his soldiers came from Gerara, [27] Isaac said to them: Why are ye come to me, a man whom you hate, and have thrust out from you? [28] And they answered: We saw that the Lord is with thee, and therefore we said: Let there be an oath between us, and let us make a covenant, [29] That thou do us no harm, as we on our part have touched nothing of thine, nor have done any thing to hurt thee: but with peace have sent thee away increased with the blessing of the Lord. [30] And he made them a feast, and after they had eaten and drunk:
[31] Arising in the morning, they swore one to another: and Isaac sent them away peaceably to their own home. [32] And behold the same day the servants of Isaac came, telling him of a well which they had digged, and saying: We have found water. [33] Whereupon he called it Abundance: and the name of the city was called Bersabee, even to this day. [34] And Esau being forty years old, married wives, Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hethite, and Basemath the daughter of Elon of the same place. [35] And they both offended the mind of Isaac and Rebecca.

Let us begin by learning

With the Crucifix
make the Sign of the Cross:
Using your right hand,

When we make our profession of faith
we express our faith and belief in God
and all which He has done for us.
We believe in God.
We believe that God
created the whole world
and everything in it.
God is the maker of men and the angels.
He is the beginning and the End.
God is the Great I Am,
which means that He is all being.
More importantly,
we believe that He exists
and that He loves us because He is love.

First lesson: The Holy Trinity
is one God in Three Persons.
Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
The Father loves us
and has created all things for us.
He created the angels and people, too.
Second: The Son is God,
the Second Person of the Trinity.
All things were made THROUGH Him.
He was sent by the Father
to be born of the Virgin Mary
and to die for our sins
and rise again for our salvation.
He now sits at the right hand of the Father,
And will return at the end of time
to judge all men's sins.
His Kingdom is forever.
Third: The Holy Spirit is God.
He is the love
which binds the Father and the Son.
And He dwells in the soul
of all the Baptized.
In the Old Testament,
The Holy Spirit spoke through the Prophets.
He now speaks through the Church.
Fourth: The Holy Spirit gives life
and grace through the Sacraments.
The Sacraments are the fountains of grace
established by Jesus Christ.
Fifth: The Catholic Church
was established by Jesus Christ
upon the foundation of the Apostles.
Through the Catholic Church,
we receive the Sacraments of life in Christ.
Seventh:
We believe in the Communion of Saints.
That means that we live in a new dispensation,
when we are baptized and washed of our sins,
we become children of God and live in Mount Zion
with the souls of men made perfect, the Saints.
Eighth:
We believe in the Forgiveness of Sins.
Christ established the Sacraments
in order that we could be forgiven of our sins.
But we are only forgiven of our sins
to the extent that we forgive others.
Through the Sacraments,
Christ washes our souls clean of all sin
and we are made just in the eyes of God.
Ninth:
We believe in the resurrection of the dead on the Last Day.
The wicked, those who do their own will,
shall rise again to the Second Death.
And they will be punished for eternity.
While those who have done the Father's will
by keeping the Commandments
will rise to new life and live in the company
of God and His Saints, for eternity.
Tenth:
We believe in life everlasting.
We believe that if we do the Father's will,
we will be saved in accordance with His mercy.
This is our faith and our hope.
The Liturgy is the Mass.
And it is in the Mass that we receive
the Sacraments of our faith.
Jesus Christ is present
in the Mass
in the Reading of Scripture
and in the Eucharist.
Now pray the Our Father:

First lesson: The Mass is the Christian Assembly,
it is the Christian Passover.
In the Mass, we worship God and
remember all which He has done for us.
Second: The Mass is divided in two parts.
The Liturgy of the Word,
which is the reading and explaining
of Sacred Scripture.
And the Liturgy of the Eucharist
which is the Communion
of the Body and Blood of Christ.
Third: The Sacraments are the mighty works of God
through which He gives us a share in His life.
It is this mystery of Christ
that the Church proclaims
and celebrates in her liturgy
so that the faithful may live from it
and bear witness to it in the world:
Fourth: Baptism - The washing of regeneration
through which God washes our souls of sin
and makes us his childrren.
Fifth: Confirmation - the seal of the Holy Spirit,
by which we are given the power to proclaim our faith.
Sixth: Reconciliation - if we sin after baptism,
me may turn to God, repenting,
and be forgiven of our sins.
Seventh: Eucharist - the source and summit of our faith.
The Sacrament of the Body and Blood of our Lord.
By participation in this Sacrament,
we are united to God
and granted eternal life.
Eighth: Matrimony - man and woman
are joined together in the presence of God
and made one flesh. The word, literally,
means"office of mother" or "motherhood".
Ninth: Holy Orders - a man separates himself from the world
and offers himself as a servant of God's people
and a minister of God.
Tenth: Anointing of the Sick:
By the power of the Holy Spirit,
Christ heals the sick body
and more importantly, the soul.

Review:
By the Sacraments and the Liturgy,
God makes Himself present in the world. When
we participate in the Liturgy,
we worship God and remember
all which He has done for us.
When we receive the Sacraments,
God unites Himself to us
and pours His sanctifying grace
into our souls.
The third pillar is the life of those
who have faith in Christ.
A life which should lead to
our union with Him, in this life
and in the next.
God made us to know him,
to love him, and to serve him in this world
and to be happy with him forever, in the next.
Summary of the third pillar, still on the big bead:
Those who have faith in Christ
Should live according to His will.
To that end, they must keep the Commandments.
The Commandments are summarized in one word, Love.
Love God with all your heart and soul.
Love your neighbor as yourself.
Now pray the Our Father:

First Commandment:
Love God with all your heart
and soul. Those who love God,
keep His Commandments.
Third:
Because we love God,
we keep the Sabbath Day.
Sunday is the new Sabbath Day.
Sabbath means oath.
And on our Sabbath day, in the Mass,
when we profess our faith,
we make a solemn oath to
love God and to
do God's will for the rest of our lives.
Fourth: Love your father and mother
that you may live long.
God wants us
to love our fathers and mothers
because they are
a reflection of His Fatherhood.
Our fathers and mother are our
very first and closest neighbors.
Fifth: Love life.
You will respect life and hold
the lives of men as sacred, because
we are all made in the image of God.
Therefore, do not mistreat people. Do not murder.
Sixth: Love your husband and your wife.
Christ loves the Church and died for her.
We must have that same kind of love
for our spouses and our family.
Therefore, do not commit adultery.
Seventh:
Because we love our neighbors,
we don't take from them
what they have worked to obtain,
what they cherish, and is legally theirs.
We wouldn't want them to take anything
from us. Therefore, do not steal.
Tenth:
Be satisfied with that which is yours.
Do not envy your neighbor his good fortune,
his house or his property. Do not covet your neighbor's goods.
Summary of the fourth pillar, still on the big bead:
Prayer is communication with God and His Saints.
Prayer is a request for God's intervention in our lives.
When we pray, we show that we recognize
our weakness and God's power.
Now pray the Our Father:

Second:
When you are in need,
turn to God with prayers of petition.
He is the only one who can help you.
Third:
Remember that the prayer of a
just man is very effective. Therefore,
when in need, ask for intercession of the Saints
and of your fellow man.
God also wills that we make intercessions
for all men.
Fourth:
When we pray the Our Father,
we call out "Abba, Father"
because we are children of God.
Seventh:
"Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done.
On earth as it is in heaven."
Because when we do the will of God,
He makes His home in our soul.
Eighth:
"Give us this day our daily bread"
Because we recognize that we need God
for all our daily needs. And we also recognize
that Jesus Christ gave us the Bread which
is His Body for the life of the world.
Prayer is the posture of the Christian. It is recognition
that we are the "Anawim", the poor in spirit, who need
God and put our faith in God for all that we need.
It is also a posture of gratitude and praise to the glory of God.
Second: The profession of faith summarizes the gifts that God gives man: as the Author of all that is good; as Redeemer; and as Sanctifier. Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Third: God's salvation, is accomplished once for all through Christ Jesus and the Holy Spirit, and made present in the sacred actions of the Church's liturgy and in the seven sacraments.
Fourth: In the Liturgy, we remember
the life of Christ and His Sacrifice upon the Cross.
Fifth: In the Sacraments,
we receive the life (Sanctifying grace) of Christ,
which He poured out to us
from the Cross.
Tenth:
When we pray, we show our relationship to God
our Father.
We express our love and faith
in He who loves us
and sent His only begotten Son
to sacrifice Himself for our salvation.

Review:
All the doctrines of the Church can be summarized in one word:
HAIL, HOLY QUEEN, Mother of Mercy,
our life, our sweetness and our hope!

[26] Isaac was threescore years old when the children were born unto him. [27] And when they were grown up, Esau became a skillful hunter, and a husbandman, but Jacob a plain man dwelt in tents. [28] Isaac loved Esau, because he ate of his hunting: and Rebecca loved Jacob. [29] And Jacob boiled pottage: to whom Esau, coming faint out of the field, [30] Said: Give me of this red pottage, for I am exceeding faint. For which reason his name was called Edom.
[31] And Jacob said to him: Sell me thy first birthright. [32] He answered: Lo I die, what will the first birthright avail me? [33] Jacob said: Swear therefore to me. Esau swore to him, and sold his first birthright. [34] And so taking bread and the pottage of lentils, he ate, and drank, and went his way; making little account of having sold his first birthright.
